Dragonair trading card - from sketch to finished illustration
Artist trading cards are small pieces of art that are collected, traded, swapped or sold around the world.
Sometimes it's fun to do something quick and simple. This card took me 50 minutes to make, including the sketch. Last November, when I first started making trading cards, they took me 6-8 hours just to color. I wouldn't be able to make more complex designs in 50 minutes, but still, it's a huge improvement!
Sketch and finished linework
Dragonair is easy to sketch, it's like a unicorn snake with weird, tiny wings on the side. The bird above is part of a bigger drawing I'm working on.
ACEO - Art Card Originals and Editions
Trading cards are small, people always seem to believe they are bigger.. But no, they are tiny.
- Size: 2.5" x 3.5" / 6.4 x 8.9 cm
The coloring process
I chose a purple background that faded from almost black to very light purple. I think purple and blue looks gorgeous together, so that's why I picked purple. Sometimes a plain background works out well, without getting boring to look at.
This is what it looked like before I added details:
The finished illustration
White gel pen really makes the illustration pop.
My livingroom
Part of my pokemon/gaming collection. I don't collect anything in special, just figures and plushies from my favorite video games ^_^

It's also nice to see a fellow gamer on here. :)
Thank you so much! I love creating galaxy effects or night sky backgrounds, it immediately makes everything more interesting to look at :D Haha.
