Stop Legalized Plunder

in #taxation5 years ago

This victim of the parasites is near Seattle. Thankfully, this problem is not widespread throughout the US...yet.

But in higher cost areas people are getting screwed out of their homes and lives.A couple I know own a house in Asheville, NC they've had since the 80's. They paid $35k for their nice little arts and crafts bungalow over near the Grove Park Inn. It's paid for, but their taxes are around $600 a MONTH. Both want to retire, and when they do they are going to have to sell out. Now they'll get a nice little chunk for that little house (about 600k) But that community is their home. Why they should be forced to move in retirement away from their friends, family, their church and all
the rest.

Cities rely too much on property tax, and in many cities the real estate industry works consciously neighborhood by neighborhood to inflate housing prices. They engineer this inflation by design. Cities love it because they can spend whatever they want, knowing their income from tax is going to grow exponentially even if the population stays nearly the same. When asked about this trend, a city councilor said they wanted to clear "the dead wood" of elderly, lower income, low-tax-paying, low consumption people out. The entire thing was by design. It's pretty damn evil... But cities all across the country do this.

Wow, what an injustice! It is not possible for older adults to be treated that way, on the contrary they should have considerations and respect for them who once gave everything and worked for a quiet old age and the place where they have spent most of their lives. This is unacceptable. Greetings, @pinkspectre.

Wow that's crazy. "Clear the dead wood"
???!!!?? Just wow.

It's a great shame, and I can relate on a first-hand basis: Just a few weeks ago, we had to beg, borrow and count the coins in the couch cushions to be able to make our property tax payment to keep from losing our home which we own 100% outright!

We put everything we had at the time — including cashing out some IRAs — into buying this place with cash so we would NOT have a monthly housing payment, but with eternally rising property values and tax rates, we now have precisely what we set out to not have: the equivalent of a monthly housing payment.

Meanwhile, housing values in our municipality (last I checked) are about 50% above the state average, while median income is 30% below the state median. How the heck is that supposed to "work?" Oh wait... it's NOT...

Bright Blessings!

I was a bit on the fence about all of this initially. I haven't lived in a place more than 10 years since I was a kid at my parents house, but if you told me I could make $565,000.00 on my house, I would probably sell in a heartbeat. The fact that the politicians specifically said their plan is to crows out the elderly and lower income is just appalling though. I don't have any patience for that kind of stuff...

This is a shame. This is what I called overtaxing

Wow! That's crazy.
