Legoland Discovery Center: Tempe, AZ

in #arizona8 years ago

You are likely familiar with Legos, the colorful brick like toy blocks ubiquitous through many childhoods. Scattered around the world are several theme parks to celebrate this beloved toy, where children can gather to play with the different varieties of Legos and marvel at intricate creations built with Legos. In many of these Legolands, there are Lego themed rides along the other attractions.

Unfortunately the one we were able to visit in Tempe, Arizona, USA wasn’t a full fledged Legoland theme park, like it’s sibling parks in California, Florida, and other places in the world. However, this was in it’s own way a blessing, as the little ones we were with (ages 2 and 5) would probably be too young to enjoy or be able to go on most rides. The compact version of Legoland also worked in our favor, as it was not overwhelming like most theme parks can be.

The Legoland Discovery Center in Tempe offered only two rides, one of which neither of our little companions was tall enough to ride. But it did offer endless entertainment in the form of millions of little lego bricks, and thousands of bigger lego bricks for hours of building fun. On display, they also had many interesting Lego attractions, and the building housed many interesting and intricate Lego designs.

In addition to this, the Legoland Discovery Center was also home to a 4D theater, which is basically 3D that rains/snows on you. We didn’t get to experience this aspect of the discovery center, as it was naptime for the youngins (and ourselves) and our Legoland adventure had to come to an end.

Frankly, for the price, I can think of a lot more adventures that would be enjoyable for everyone involved. But the kids had fun in the two hours we spent there, and that’s all that counts. Also, there were a lot (A LOT!) of really cool things made out of Legos:

like this awesome Lego dinosaur

or this working fountain that features an octopus

awesome Lego clocktower

These pits of legos were everywhere in the discovery center

The walls were alive with Lego creations.

Yes, this gal is made out of Legos

What age group were they targeting do you think?

It seems like the 5 to 11 year olds were happiest and could enjoy the most activities, but the littler ones were happy too.
