Late Fragment- Raymond Carver
This poem, Late Fragment, was the last page in the final book of poetry written by the great Raymond Carver. Having read poetry all my life, there are a few that get caught in my bloodstream, and this is certainly one of them.
I reflect on this poem often, I find it's simple poignancy so beautiful. It is a perfect last poem. Late Fragment was written as he battled cancer, which is a war he ultimately lost. The poem lives forever etched in stone, inscribed on Raymond Carver's gravestone in Washington state.
As far as eulogies go, this one speaking of his personal meaning of life and satisfaction at the end of it, is utterly perfect. Just thought I'd share.
Thanks for sharing this touching poem. I feel the lines deeply to my bones.
