ABQ Reviews: The Chocolate Dude

in #albuquerque6 years ago

The Chocolate Dude is a cozy little cafe in the Nob Hill district of Albuquerque. As the name would imply, the Chocolate Dude also specializes in chocolate treats of many different varieties.

The setting of the cafe is much like any other modern coffee shop, however the narrow building also houses nostalgic decor from the ‘60s and ‘70s. With at least two oversized lava lamps and a counter built to look like a Volkswagon bus, the Chocolate Dude aims to transport you back in time. The walls are lined with psychedelically colored portraits of David Bowie, Bob Marley, and other famed musicians.

As far as the menu goes, the chocolate options are endless and continually changing. Three large, glass fronted cases house yummy options such as peanut butter fudge, chocolate pecan truffles, myriad variations of dipped and coated apples, as well as dipped fruits and cookies. The lounge area is rather narrow, as they have an open kitchen where you can watch the goodies being made by the employees.

Close to the university and located on Central Avenue, it’s not unusual for the Chocolate Dude to be packed to the brim with students, tourists, and passersby who are dragged in on the tails of the delicious aroma that the cafe exudes. But the guarantee of a perfect chocolate treat, a warm cup of coffee, and the promise of a cool and cozy place to enjoy them, is as good enough a reason as any to endure the crowds.

the place looks lovely
I like chocolate with more than 90% cocoa, usually hard to get. I bet they have it there :)
