Wildlife of Czech Republic: green rose chafer
Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!
I am here with another curious creature that can be found in my Czech homeland - a beautiful metallic bug called the green rose chafer.
Scientifically known as Cenota Aurata, this bug is usually about 2 cm (3/4 in) long and it can be easily recognized by its vividly green metallic structural coloration.
A member of the famous scarab beetle family, the green rose chafer is native to Southern and Central Europe but they can also occur in southern parts of the UK and in South Eastern Asia.
These bugs usually show up on warm sunny days from late May to early September when they love to feed on pollen and nectar of blooming flowers, mostly roses (as their name suggests).
I took all these photos with my cell phone in a bed of roses in our garden just a few weeks ago. I know I have seen these guys before but I had no idea they are actually scarabs.
I hope you liked the shots and you learned something new. Let me also remind you that I am currently hosting a big CRUSTACEAN PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST with 25 SBI shares and upvotes in prizes so if you have any crab photos, make sure to submit them in there ;)
Love these green metallic beetles i have actually seen them here in Thailand and i do have some photos of them in my archive somewhere... lol... cute little buggers :)
Ah, good to know my information about their occurrence in SE Asia was correct :) Thanks for stopping by.
My pleasure. I found that photo of the green metallic beetle a bit different in the body but similar although i have seen the one you are showing also in Thailand.
Wooow, look at this beauty! Amazing creature.
Haha...real aerodynamic shape like a Alien spaceship :)
Stunning shots! Your cell phone's camera must be quite good! :).. I like the green rose chafers too (amazing green metallic color), very fun to photograph!
Thanks buddy, I think you also posted some shots of these bugs some time ago, right? Btw I hope you have some crustacean photos too :D ;)
Yep, that's right! :)...I would like to join your contest but unfortunately, I don't think I have any crustacean photos! :/
Really? :/ There are actually some common non aquatic crustaceans too, like woodlice for example. But no worries, if you cannot join now, I am sure you will shine next time as the next theme will probably be birds ;)
Hmm, I have to check again if I find something but I'm pretty sure I don't have any. I will definitely join next time! :)
@phortun your photos are great, the color of these beetles is beautiful, I had not seen them green, like pearly. I have seen them black and others of golden color. Your photos are amazing.
Thank you so much for this nice comment, they are like little green pearls indeed :) Have a great day!
