Good to see you again, Playa del Carmen
Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!
This post is a little update on our current travel adventures. After spending almost two months in a remote rural area of northwestern Yucatan, we visited the beautiful historic cities of Campeche and Merida before heading back to Playa del Carmen where we lived for more than a year before.
Located right in the middle of the famous Mayan Riviera, Playa del Carmen is quickly transforming into a bustling tourist city and it might soon become even more popular than nearby Cancun. Just a few years ago, Playa del Carmen was actually the fastest growing city in Mexico as well as in all Latin America and I would not be surprised if it was still holding this remarkable primacy as there are construction works going on literally all over the city.
While I love the peace and quiet of nature and usually much prefer it to urban sites, I must admit living in the city comes with some benefits that you simply cannot have in remote areas (especially if you don´t drive, like us).
So yeah, here we are again Playa - nice to see you! We have already been here for a couple of days but so far, we have been dealing with all kinds of problems that digital nomads face when relocating to a new place so we have had little time for checking the beach but let me just share two snap shots I took there.
My concerns were that the increasing number of tourists would have a negative impact on the quality of the water and the cleanness of the beaches and the local environment as a whole but obviously, it is not the case :)
It is good to be back, Riviera. I cannot wait to visit all of my favorite places and secret spots again! :)

Who wouldn't just love Playa del Carmen, if only by the pictures alone? What a peaceful place it is and even though I have only been there one time, I remember the beaches and the coral reefs there.
The trip started around seeing the Mayan ruins in Tulum but ended with a diving trip right there. Amazing water! I am sure that you both are very happy to get back to civilization, even though getting away is fun and adventurous.

Too bad. I loved Chichén Itzá, but, it started getting very crowded too. Have to be one step ahead of the tourists!
Exactly! In fact there are dozens of just as impressive Mayan sites in Mexico that are yet to be discovered by the mass tourism ;)

Jo, @liltammy je hodně spoko :) Ale i já se těším na šnorchlovačku na svých tajných místečkách ;) Ten Stubai jsem si musel googlit - však pořádný mráz k lyžovačce patří, ne? :D Zdravíme Zuzu a celý Ďurkovic gang - doufám, že bude zas nějaké vtipné rodinné videjko :D

It has been a few years since I was there but I remember it well. I too was hoping that the human expansion there would be done with good respect for nature as it is such a beautiful place.
Nice warm photos are good right now as I contemplate shovelling snow......

Cities usually don´t change much in just a couple of years but Playa del Carmen has lately been through a massive transformation and growth so I am pretty sure you would be surprised how much it changed since your last visit. But I am afraid they cannot be doing that with good respect for local nature as all the new neihborhoods of the city are being built where the pristine Yucatan jungle was before. It is actually very heartbreaking to see all the heavy machinery biting into the tropical forest at the edges of the city :(
I was in Mexico for 4 months and spent 1 month of it in Playa Del Carmen. It's a nice place when you have good friends there.
