Steem is a testing platform for a new way of doing things. I don't think anyone will get it truly right before 2030. That will say the next decade will just be to explore this field of Token based worlds. So I agree with you that get caught up in a limited identity can be very troubling in a long term perspective. As a person's Intelligence then only would work around that. As the nature of the Intellect. Let's say a person only would have an identity around Steem then they may miss the bigger movement and picture of where things are heading.
We can see that the mainstream usually is 10 years away from understanding something. Which surely makes sense since the world as of now isn't ready for this sort of thing. YouTube and Facebook both started around 2005. But people are only now starting to grasp the business potential. And that is 10 years later. A global inclusive consciousness first makes it so you need a massive long term wealth trickle down effect. As we already have made in the physical world the mass abundance that can be seen in form of the variety of shops.
I don't see the Token as the core value but 1-3 people that you can truly network with and expand to something way bigger in terms of Trust and Relationships. It's a world that is more optimised instead of the mainstream mass approach that the other platforms went for.
Surely the core value happens in more group chat settings as it makes humans be able to develop deeper bounds. And surely you need to combine both Love with others that also focus a lot on Intellect based tasks so you cover all sides.
I agree with you that we have seen nothing yet and that after 2020 we will see the truly exciting things be developed. As maturity is good for every market. If I compare my 10 year experience with just 1 year on Steem then I can truly see the exponential growth effect of simpler optimised systems that saves massive time and energy. And since it's just some code this means that eventually others will experiment with various models until the ideal get's created.

I just wish my parents would have surrounded themselves with better people when I was younger. It would have saved me a lot of grief growing up!
