Coffee and Philosophy: Mirrors

Today's mug is brought to us by the reflection of our own mug. We all have a reflection right?

Today I want to talk about the concept of mirrors and mirroring. I have done much of my self exploratory work through what is referred to as "the mirror" technique. I felt a bit conflicted with it at first, but then again, when we are trying to whip our ego into submission and discover who we truly are at our core there is always resistance.

Imagine that everything you have ever felt, feel right now, or will feel at any point in your life is a manifestation of your own mind. I spoke about frequencies and visualizing our energetic levels or output yesterday, but it actually goes much deeper. If we accept full responsibility for our own selves and our emotional stability and well-being, then we must control our mind to be responsible for our mind. The mirror technique allows us to look at everything we feel in relation to another person or event and process it internally rather than to react in an external sense. It puts us in an observational view of our own life instead of a reactionary view.

It requires us to be able to look past societal and learned behaviors and puts our ego in check because it makes us responsible for ourselves and allows us the privilege of acting and responding to external stimuli in a manner we truly intend to. Essentially, if you want to do something that you might regret later, you have to look into the mirror and figure out why you feel that way and what your real intentions are in your external output. In turn, we stop blaming or validating emotions based on other people or events we have no control over. Namaste.
