My Brief Career as a Graphic Designer

Yesterday I had fun making a simple divider for my blog.

I have a kind of feeling that the little touches to your blog show that you care and you are committed to being here. I tend to have some reverence for people with several banners at the end of their blog 😂

Big shout out to my man @dedicatedguy - who allowed me to radically appropriate this idea and use it myself.

Using that same concept I built a new one with my colours and logo.
I saved several variations with different coloured eyes, really happy with the result! :)

Through doing this simple act, it dawned on me that I have some experience as a graphic designer. I studied for about a year and a half, learning the basics of graphic design, web design, and interface design.

I worked very briefly as a freelance designer while I was studying, but something in me found the work distasteful. I also didn't exactly have the kind of style or patience to take on many of the jobs being offered. There is an over abundance of graphic designers in Wellington where I live, with one of the local universities specializing in design. I only found bits and pieces of freelance work, and got offered a job for a company doing botox injections.

I had to turn that job down because it was too much of a lie, the situation seemed to encapsulate how I felt about the industry actually. People were being underpaid to help sell so many superfluous things, it was just marketing with no integrity and no connection to the work.

Bowing out of the professional realm I now look at these skills as a means to enhance my communication through the internet, handle digital photography, and to make art.

I most enjoy making logos and simple designs. I have a more minimal aesthetic and like block colour and negative space.
