A Day of Thanksgiving

It is nine o clock at night and I am getting sleepy. I celebrated Thanksgiving with my family today. I will be celebrating it with special people tomorrow. What is Thanksgiving anyway, to most people it's a major holiday spending time with family and friends. Thanksgiving day is celebrated every fourth Thursday of November here in the United States. Other countries such as Canada, Liberia and Caribbean Islands also have their own Thanksgiving celebration. It is a day of giving love and gratitude.

In the United States, the first Thanksgiving was recorded in 1621. It was celebrated by the pilgrims after their first harvest. "The Colonial pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians came together to eat a meal in the spirit of Thankfulness. The celebration lasted for three days because the Indians had to travel by their barefoot to reach the Pilgrims for two days. It was not until October 1777 that all 13 colonies joined together in a celebration of thanks for their victory and freedom from Great Britain. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln officially proclaimed the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving day."(Courtesy of reference.com)

In our society today, most families celebrate Thanksgiving dinner with turkey or ham on their table or both accompanied by other menus. It's one of the major holidays I always look forward to celebrating here in the United States.

There's a lot of things that I am thankful for in my life. On this special day, just remember to be thankful for all of the blessings you receive everyday. Be thankful for all the trials that comes your way. Be thankful for your families and friends who are there for you on your best or worst times. Be thankful that you are alive celebrating this day.
