Our attempt to open a coconut with the kids!
For some reason my son really wanted a coconut when we were at the grocery store recently. So I caved and bought us one.
Not knowing what to do with it!
Well we watched some videos and decided to try to make some coconut milk.
It failed miserably but I think the coconut was no good, it had a deep crack when we bought it, which is probably also why it broke open so easy.
I’m sure we’ll try after the next trip to the store and my son sees another one.
We’d be happy to take any tips from anyone regarding opening it or making coconut milk.

You'd use that one to nom on or make nasi lemak with. They have to green to have water in them (or at least I assume so as that's how the ones back home work XD). To find out if it's got water shake it, you should hear liquid rattling around inside, though if it's brown like that it probably won't taste fantastic anyway. My dad cuts the top of the coconut (where it was connected to the thing that connects it to the tree) off by rotating and chipping away til it's thinned right down and then cuts a hole into it, this way you don't have coconut water exploding everywhere XD Then you can either drink it out of the coconut or pour it into a jug, then cut the coconut in half and put some of the flesh into the water (you will probably lose at least half the coconut flesh to the kids) and give that a stir. The rest of my family likes it chilled, I don't really note a difference in flavour either way.
Coconut hunting is one of the things we always do when we go home, if I remember I'll take a video of how my dad does it for you, because it will still be totally relevant by then I'm sure XD
