This is a conversation I just had at work with a co-worker as I try to convince him to stack silver.

I'm having a rare opportunity tonight to have a male nurse working with me and one that enjoys pondering what will come of the world and many of the global problems. I was mentioning silver as a tangible asset and something to have to barter with in a time of crisis, hyperinflation or heaven forbid total global economic and societal breakdown.

He non-nonchalantly replied "Well I have guns, I'll just become a Cannibalistic Marauder". He was likely joking or he might not be normal, but I have often heard other people suggest that guns are the answer in the a time of crisis. I don't really think so. I think it is incredibly hard (for most people) to kill another human being let alone to eat them.

Most people have never killed an animal or experienced what it is like to go through the process or turning an animal into consumable meat. It's not for the feign of heart. This would be a good time to try to find the old video I have of my wife, who once decided she would take on the challenge of field dressing a bear we killed in the past. It's didn't go well and she didn't last very long. I used to teach nurses in the past as well and it's damn hard to even just stab another human being with a needle those first few times. I could just image how hard it would be eat someone.

We'll take this conversations away from some of the morbidity here, but I did want to preface this conversation with those thoughts. I'll get on with more of an introduction to silver stacking.

I can't say I'm much of a prepper or doomsday-er, but I do think silver has a place as an asset for barter just in case something does happen. Of course it doesn't need to be the end of days, it can be used after a natural disaster or hyperinflation event, both which you can't deny are happening much more frequently these days. I know cryptocurrenices may have a place in some of these scenarios but in others there may be a lose of infrastructure and a physical asset has it's utility.

I'm sure there are other assets that would also serve this purpose and maybe in some areas people may start trading button or bottle caps or some sort of shells. Silver is quite universal and has a longstanding history serving the purpose as a means or barter and currency. Of course all this can also be said for gold but of course the cost of even a small amount of gold is quite high and there are significant premiums to owning fractional gold.

I don't focus on this as a collectors. I don't just stack for weight as many do. It was of course part of my starting interest in silver early on but I quickly became a collector. The variety that is available these days to silver collectors is just amazing.

All these silver pieces can be owned at not much more than "spot" value. So as a collector it's perfect. They remain highly liquid and the value I may lose if I had to sell in an emergency is really not that much. If I don't have to sell them many will gain collector's value in the future and they will all continue to rise in spot value. Likely in 5-10 years any premium I paid would be recouped as spot rose.

Coin collecting is the second biggest hobby world wide (after gardening) and it will likely always continue to be. Another great reason why collecting silver coins has a great appeal.
