Word of the Day - Communication

in #ctp7 years ago

I have chosen this word in light of the past STEEM downtime and problems that we had on the blockchain (and will probably have in the future). As you may know, we had two hard forks in the last couple of days and more-less they went OK. The last downtime was over 24 hours and it was all mess... Why?

Firstly, I just want to make one thing clear. I'm using Steemit.com for reading posts from STEEM, writing, curating... So, mostly, the majority of things...

Secondly, I'm not so "old" Steemian and I don't know the era before 2019, but elders are telling that it was a real mess... The organization, downtimes, economy... Knowing all that, I have noticed that some things on Steemit are going in a better direction... In a half a year we've got a major update on the STEEM witness code which now requires a "lower" configuration for running the nodes and previously mentioned hard fork which has some really nice things with it...

keep your users closely informed, but when you have problems, bring them even closer.jpg

But... Communication... It is better... To be honest, we can't say that it's the same or worse... But... When something doesn't work as it should, you HAVE TO inform your clients/partners about it... You have to be "in touch" with them... I know that that requires people, but marketing people are a perfect fit in those moments... They can't help anything in solving the problems with code, or with restarting the blockchain... But they CAN help a lot with communication with users, and we didn't see that these days.

I would say that it is similar to that saying about friends and enemies...

-- keep your friends close and your enemies closer --
I would just change it a little...
.:. keep your users closely informed, but when you have problems, bring them even closer .:.

I think that keeping users informed about the problems on the chain will make better bounds and they will get a feeling that they are also involved in some way. And, I'm writing here only about the emotional aspect, but the economic aspect is even bigger...

Maybe the price of STEEM will be more stable if Steemit has a better connection with users... I don't think about mumbo-jumbo tech news pinned on the Steemit homepage... I'm talking about communication with users in EVERYDAY ENGLISH understandable to the majority.

Steemit, show us that you care about us!

Everyone says they wanted marketers....Until we showed up LOL

Good points man...I think people expect things to go weird during events like this. I know I did. But what most people want is just...Basic communication.

Don't need to shout it out that you have it fixed. Just regular updates, informing people would have been a huge help to people not expecting the downtime.

Those are exact words that I wanted to use... BASIC COMMUNICATION...

Thanks for your time!

I agree 100%

Great... now we are two... :)

I guess the question is ... where do they do the communication. The line across the top of the pages on Steemit was helpful in that I could figure until the "we're aware of the issues" notice disappeared there were problems. Just didn't know for sure what. Well I did have an idea but only because I hang out in discords. Thinking more of those who don't.

Hmm... Where do they do the communication? Those pinned messages on the top of the screen are usually obvious and I don't count them as "communication" :) Finding some info when there is a downtime looks like searching for BTC treasure... :) :)

Thanks for your comment and support Shadow!

One question: Why Steemit.com?

Because they are the main developers of the STEEM blockchain... at the moment... it can change in the future, but that is the reality now.
