Where does everyone get their seeds?

in #homesteading7 years ago

Its October so while I do have a little time before we actually start planting for the spring, I want to start prepping for it now, because starting out with all the veggies and herbs we want to grow is going to be expensive. Little by little to not hurt the bank!

There are a lot of seed companies on the internet. Which companies do you all use and do you like what they have to offer?

I am looking for heirloom seeds for our garden. You know, arugula to zucchini and everything in between. @mericanhomestead got me interested in planting a few items that would be new to us. Achocha or Jerusalem Artichoke are two that are on the tip of my tongue.

Also what are some fruits, veggies and herbs that you plant in your garden? Anything out of the norm? Mind you I live south of Kansas City; zone 5 or zone 6 depending on the websites you visit.

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Thank you Steemit family!

Thanks Papa-Pepper. Just read your article on THE FARM. Good article!!

I subscribe to a youtube channel called 'Deep South Homestead'. Danny and Wanda are the couple that lives there and they are true homesteaders. they support themselves fully from the homestead. They are wonderful, honest down to earth people . They sell heirloom seeds from their harvest. they will answer any questions or help anyone in any way they can. I buy seeds from them. I believe in supporting the small independent grower/homesteader. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
I am including a link to their channel.
God bless you

Thank you @timmo3663! My family and I are getting adjusted/readjusted to our new way of living and I am sure that by the spring we will be in high gear planting, harvesting and tending to our animals. My mentor of what I want our farm to be like will be modeled from my late Grandfather. He was "organic" before it was ever a fad, trend, or way of life. Everything he did was holistic and natural. No pesticides or herbicides. All natural. And that is how I want this farm to run. As he once said in a John Deere article, "We are to stewards of the land."
I greatly appreciate the link for Deep South Homestead. Just skimming their page and I see lots of interesting topics to watch. Like them I hope that what I plant that I have enough to harvest seed for the next growing season and just continue to repeat that. The days of buying seeds every spring or summer has to stop. Seeds are expensive! Again thank you for sharing!!
