Miracle of nature
The ever changing never failing wonder of the very miracle that keeps us alive.
This photo taken in the Drakensberg during the winter of 2012 after a night of light snow. This plant was fine later in the day and kept on growing into a large shrub. It was the last really cold winter up there and I waiting to see what this coming winter will bring.
I volunteered Sunday past at a club race event in Boksburg bordering on Johannesburg. We left home at 02:30 AM and it was quite cold, around 8 degrees. By 09:00 AM it was scorching enough to turn the runners into lobsters.
It made me think back on when I was a child growing up in what was a small town then called Kimberley in the Northern Cape. The summers were hot, around 29/30 degrees and the winters cold, around 4 to - 8 degrees. We could play outside for hours on end without looking like the runners did this past Sunday and these days the summer heat in my hometown gets to well over 35 degrees. @tarazkp wrote an interesting piece on nature and I agree with him on many points.
We are outsmarting ourselves to the point of becoming our own worst enemies and destroying the eco-globe we need to survive on. We are not spending nearly enough time debating the real issues like overpopulation, air water & soil pollution and touching base on another of @tarazkp's pieces, the use of free energy and electric vehicles.
Are we really that stupid that our smarts become our crime and really so greedy that we just don't care? changing

We never talk about the basic things until too late to make reasonable corrections in our bad habits of misuse. Population control will be the last thing discussed and will likely be taken care of by Mother Nature before we get around to it. We are built to expand and consume and are quite good at that. There are too many religious and cultural taboos to expect much to be done proactively about the population. In the meantime, we will continue our steady increase in consumption and befouling the environment.
