Back to the Basics #1: 'X-MEN: Evolution'
Hey, guys!
With all the superhero craze that, despite grim predictions, doesn't seem to be ebbing, I decided to go back to some of the superhero animated series I grew up with as a child and rewatch the episodes of my favorites. Yeah, I know... But one can never get tired of a good animated series. Or maybe it's just me.
Anyway, top of the list is X-Men Evolution. A little confession? I watch the entire 4 seasons of this show at least once every couple of years. Not that it was super-great, but there's sonething about the show and it's story... It just draws you in!
Perhaps it's the characters. The teenage mutants are just so lovable, bad voice acting aside. And the anticipated romance and teen drama absolutely made my days.
Or perhaps it's the story.
The series does a remarkable job of combining origin stories with teen drama and much more serious themes such as discrimination and racial bigotry. And it did this with an awesome progression.
While season 1 is quite bland, season two introduces a lot more, and by it's end, the x-men evolution series is much closer to the x-men we all now know and love. The series introduces sone new characters and storylines which have long since become Marvel Canon, such as X-23 (who made her debut in Logan) and Spyke, who was made into not one but two characters in X-Men 3: The Last Stand.
I can't say much more. However I did find this remarkable piece by Carla Velocci on geek.com.
I promise you'll love it as much as I did!
