According to Aceh custom, the ceremony should be preceded by an engagement. The engagement is usually done before the wedding day. Someone got engaged a year or two new years married. There are also engaged and married on the same day.
At the fiance's show, the family and relatives (including the gampong elders) the bridegroom brought some kind of cake, and a little part of the dowry to the bride's house.
The fiancée in Aceh term is called me ranup (Delivering betel), because at the event the bridegroom brings a large number of betel leaves to the bride.
