We Forget How Everything Was Before -Constrained Writing Contest #31- Short Story of Sci-Fi Fiction-

in #constrainedwriting7 years ago

Our mind wasn't ready for change, but our body seemed to be. It was as if he was aware of the situation long before we realized it, our body was adapting so slowly that we didn't even notice when the change was irreversible.

When the light would cease to be light and would become the dreaded darkness.

One day only happened, all over the world several people lost their vision in broad daylight, only to realize that they had not lost it at all, something in them had changed. His eyes could only see in the darkness and any trace of light impeded vision.

It was as if the tired nature of our selfish behavior had put all its strength into showing us a lesson, a shame that we forgot it very quickly, because the human adapts to any change that happens to him and I don't have the security if that is an advantage or not, I am inclined at times to the second opinion.

Another significant change was our eyes, they were not the same as before. They say that the eyes are the window of the soul, I suppose if they could be modified that way it would be to remind us that something burst into our soul right in front of us and we allow it. There were no longer brown eyes, black, green, blue, gray ... Now it was eyes purple, orange, red, yellow .... All shining as if neon lights will be treated, as if it were those posters that used to be placed outside the tattooed centers to attract attention.

The phenomenon didn't stop there, it was like a virus that was spreading so quickly that it was surprising, day after day the great majority of the population suffered that condition. As always there were those whose body couldn't stand the change, those whose organisms were not adapted and fought hard against this strange phenomenon. Those people died.

Out of every hundred people, one of them died.

Tragic. But still the world had to keep moving.

Get used to it was a tedious and long process, having to light a bulb to be able to sink into the darkness and sleep, turn it off to be able to have clarity of our environment.

That the dawn brought with it the dark night and the darkness of the night became our new dawn.

At first it was crazy, then it was common. Those who didn't survive were buried, they cried over their graves and went ahead.

Ten years later, this was our new world and the old man was completely forgotten.

The death of a man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic.

That phrase usually envelops my soul and makes me question my existence. Sometimes I have the feeling that this was a test imposed on us and that unfortunately we didn't pass. Yes, we adapt, but we let ourselves be guided and continue with the flow, we don't even fight.

What happened to the intelligent human being who questioned the world and seeks to explain everything?

What happened to our humanity?

It seems that when the light became darkness our soul also underwent that change.

This story is for this contest ;)

I love how you included that some people didn't make it. It was a huge change, and some people were "left behind" (died). Adaptations needed be made, and sometimes those are rough.
I wouldn't that much agree with that they (humanity as a whole) had forfeited, but instead adapted. It's what us humans have always been very good at - if not the best at. Cold? make clothes and wear them, ... We adapted to some of the most severe climates on the planet, and we live there (think extremely cold areas, and extremely hot, ....)... I would call this adaptation strength, instead of weakness, but I do understand your point of view. ^^ You also raised some existential questions, which I love very much. Very well done!

Thank you very much for your entry!

I appreciate your comment, and yes, I also understand your point of view xD. It's just that I do not conceive the idea that a big change happens and don't try to fight it, I understand that the human being adapts, I'm not against adaptation, by God I am human! What I don't understand is the fact of just forgetting and moving on as if nothing, you can follow but always remembering who we were. ^ - ^ / This tematic was very nice and fun to approach, thanks for that !!

But to remember is something other than to mourn. You can remember the old times, yet move on and live as if they never happened, though in your heart you always carry them with you.

I'm very happy to hear you liked it! :D
