Human Digestive System and Its Function by @pea07

Digestive system

We get the energy we need to survive from food.
Food contains various nutrients, which are essential for our good health and performance. However, our body cannot directly absorb these nutrients from food. For this it is necessary to digest the food first.

The process of digestion of food

is called digestion. Although different animals have different digestive systems, the principle is the same - breaking down food into components that the body can easily use.

Digestion of food

Our body breaks down food into small pieces to facilitate digestion. Sometimes food gets smaller during digestion. breaks down chemically. The food we normally eat is chemically made up of chains of many single molecules, breaking these chains and separating the molecules. It is released from various parts of the digestive system by doing the work of chemical breakdown.
Different types of enzymes is work for digestion. These enzymes are secreted in a liquid form called digestive juice. The broken down food mixes with digestive juices and becomes liquid.

Then the blood easily takes the nutrients from the food and sends them to different parts of the body as needed.

Starting from mouth

We eat food with mouth. As a result
Digestion also starts from the mouth. We crush food with the teeth that are slightly inside the mouth. Apart from this, when we chew food, saliva mixes with the food. As a result of this food becomes soft and digestible. Salivary enzymes break down the sugar molecules. Then the food goes into the esophagus.

Stomach

Food enters the stomach through the esophagus and stays there for about four hours. How long food stays in the stomach depends not on the amount of food, but on its chemicals depends on the structure. The main component of the digestive juices released from the stomach wall is hydrochloric acid, which can easily kill the bacteria in the food and also chemically break down the protein in the food. All food mixed with the acid then turns into a liquid.

small intestine

Liquid food little by little goes from the stomach to the small intestine . Digestive juices from the small intestine and pancreas and bile from the gall bladder complete the final step of breaking down food. It ends with the whole process of digestion.

What happens when food breaks down?

Carbohydrates (rice, bread, potatoes, sugar) are broken down into glucose, which is our body's main energy source. That's why sugar/ glucose juice goes directly into the blood because it does not need digestion. Proteins are broken down into amino acids. almost 20 types of amino acids are needed by the body, of which at least 10 are from food needs to be in protein. The rest is the body
can make Fatty or fatty foods are broken down into fatty acids and glycerol. Only to break down carbohydrates and proteins
Enzymes are enough. But they also need bile to break down fats.
Bile works just like detergent soap. One end of the detergent molecule is in the dirt on the cloth and the other end is in the water just as it dissolves the dirt in small pieces and pulls it out of the cloth, so does the bile break up the oil or fat. Only then is it chemically treated with enzymes
is suitable for breaking. Vitamins, mineral salts and water are absorbed directly into the body without any digestion.

Then the nutrients go into the blood

When the digestion process is over, the blood absorbs the nutrients in the food. This function in a part of the small intestine. It is a twisted tube, more than twice as long as a human. Here is a folded thin screen. This screen can extend more than 10 square meters to accommodate food. In this villa again there is fine
Blood vessels, also known as capillaries. This is where the blood collects the nutrients from the food.

Waste disposal

Our body cannot digest everything. Undigested food passes from the small intestine to the large intestine. Here the body again collects some nutrients from that liquid food. From here, the rest of the food leaves the body in the form of feces and urine.
