How quality content can help STEEMit rule the Internet

In the Internet universe, original & quality content is king. All else takes a backseat. People seek quality content and in the long run search engines respond. Other websites love linking to quality content. Google's ranking algorithm uses the number and weight of backlinks a particular content page has from other websites, websites that are themselves ranked based on backlinks they have from other reputable websites. It’s a virtuous and organic process that elevates websites that are relevant and have interesting content. That’s why people love Google search so much. Hence the entire Internet and the whole of the search engine industry is designed to reward relevant and quality content. It takes some time for search engines to start recognizing good content, but once they do it's pure traffic flow.

Content marketing is a key channel for explosive customer acquisition. In the startup book Traction there are a few interesting case studies of how effective it is. Most companies don't focus on company blogs. On the other hand it was one of the largest sources of customer acquisition for companies like Moz, Unbounce & OkCupid.

Some key points:

Unbounce started a blog a year before it had a product, its first hire was a blogger and by the time of the launch they already had 20,000 unique visitors a month! Over time Unbounce found infographics are shared 20x more often than typical blog posts. Members of the company also participated as guests on other blogs and reached out to influential people on Twitter for promotion.

The team from the online dating website OkCupid created controversial posts such as How Your Race Affects the Messages You Get to generate traffic and spark conversation and their blog helped them get to the top of search engine rankings for the very competitive search term 'online dating' in just one year.

What can Steemit do? Encourage users to create and keep high quality original content on the platform and encourage other websites to backlink to the content here. With more backlinks from high domain authority websites over time Steemit will start surging up the search rankings, get more traffic, get more contributors and it will snowball from there. For Steemit the company, their website itself is a blogging platform so the company or community can write its own unique content on Steemit. A “How to Write Quality Content” blog series would be a great topic.

Here are just some of the categories of content people can contribute:

News:

Breaking news and exclusives about what's going on in the world. The Drudge Report rose to prominence when they broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Hey it's easier to break stories on Steemit than on Drudge or Twitter.. and get paid.

Blogs & Essays:

People write about their interests. It's just as easy to write a blog on Steemit than on Medium... and get paid.

Forum Discussion:

Comment on and curate topics. Q & A's with celebrities. . it's just as easy to make a witty comment on Steemit than on Reddit.. and get paid.

Sharing Your Life:

It's as easy to share what you ate today on Steemit than on Facebook... and get paid.

Education:

'How-to' tutorials and learning... It's just as easy to post a 'how-to' video on Steemit than Youtube.....and you get.... the idea.

Bottom Line: Quality. Content. Is. King. ... and now you get paid for creating it!

So what original content do you plan on creating?
