Plant Cafe Vegan Restaurant | Eating in Cape Town

in #vegan6 years ago

I went to Plant Restaurant yesterday. It's my first time going there since coming back from Thailand in October last year and the first time since Plant's change of ownership.

I've had mixed experiences there in the past. The first time I went there was absolutely great, but the second time was not good at all. The second time was just before Plant closed down for a bit and then opened up with a new menu.

Yesterday was my third time going there. The food was really tasty. Honestly it is the best quality food I have eaten at Plant Restaurant. My mushroom burger was good and I tried some of my mates Nachos, which was also good. What I did not like is how all I got for my R75 was a burger, nothing else. It was not a big burger either.

The R75 for a meal is understandable because we were in the heart of Cape Town, but I at least wanted some fries or salad on the side. There was not even an option to add these things.

I really can't justify paying that much just for a small mushroom burger. If I go back to Plant I'll order the Nachos, which looked like a much bigger portion of food.

These looks really good! 😋

I find that most of the vegan cafes/restaurants that I've been to tend to be too pricey for the amount, and size, of food we get.

There's a few out there that are both good in quality and also being decent in serving proportion, but most of them are usually asian restaurant serving noodles or rice dishes.

Always on the lookout for more western-type vegan restaurants. Although, they're pretty hard to come by where I live.

Sadly I have too agree with you. Most 100% vegan restaurants, in South Africa at least, are a bit pricy (compared to serving size). I guess that can be because they are catering for a new trend. It is one of the reasons why it is so important that we do our best to encourage mainstream food chains like maccas, steers, dominos etc to get more vegan options

I tried the veggie burger at Steers over the holidays and it was pretty good, and only like R35! Very basic, but still quite tasty. 🍔

That's good to know! I'll give it a try soon.

It looks really amazing and tasty. I wish there were more vegan restaurants.

This mushroom burger looks so yummy! 🤤 I haven't of Plant Cafe before, I will definitely give them a try next time I am in Cape Town. The nachos also look 🔥 I am in Pretoria, we currently do not have dedicated vegan restaurants, so I always try out vegan restaurants in other cities when I travelling.

If you are ever in Plettenberg Bay there is a really good one there called Bocca Dolce!

Hey Paul, both the burger and the natchos are looking really delicious! Greetings from a fellow vegan!

It all looks really good! 😋 I grew up in Cape Town and can't imagine it being too vegan friendly! Are there many vegan places to eat?

There are quite a few now. In the city I think there are four places and another two or three just outside
