RAM increase comes to the EOS network
CCN has reported that the block producers of the EOS network have voted to increase the total available RAM from 64Gb to 128Gb. This move is in response to the cost of RAM becoming so high as to make opening a new account prohibitive to many users.
The EOS network runs on RAM. Users must purchase RAM on the network in order to open a new account as well as deploy dApps. Recently, the price of RAM has been spiking, at times as high as $7700 per megabyte. This meant the cost of even becoming a participant on the network was to the tune of $30.
Therefore it has been decided by a vote from the block producers (15 of 21 have officially approved, which was the required amount to enact the proposal), to increase the available RAM by 1Kb per block up to a total of 128Gb.
Already this initiative has been deployed and already RAM prices are dropping. Hopefully this will encourage new users to the fledgling blockchain.
