"Catapilla by Catapilla" (1971)

Catapilla was an English band, originally from London founded in the 70s. It was composed by saxophonists Robert Calvert and Hugh Eaglestone, drummer Malcolm Frith, bassist Dave Taylor, guitarist Graham Wilson, flutist Thierry Rheinhardt and vocalists Jo and Anna Meek The band's style can be defined as a progressive jazz rock with psychedelic ingredients and blues sound. The music of Catapilla can be compared in a certain way with groups from the canterbury scene, especially with bands such as Delivery, Soft Machine (Volume I) and Gong (Flying Teapot). The band's first album, simply titled "Catapilla," was released in 1970 ... A striking feature of the work is that of the four tracks that make up the album, two of them comprise a specific duration. The first one, "Naked Death" (has 15 minutes duration) is a heavy piece, with good arrangements and with the peculiarity that has an improvisation, with a session of ten minutes, with solos of sax and electric guitar. The other striking piece of the album is "Embryonic Fusion", a 24-minute bestiality, in which everything takes place within an effusive complexity, with countless passages, arrangements and changes of sound intensities ... in summary a record and a band to keep in mind ... =)
