The voice of Ireland.....Really?

in OCD4 years ago
"The people have spoken, the bastards"

... Dick Tuck's concession speech following his loss in the 1966 California State Senate election.  Only now it's the people of Ireland and a quote many outgoing politicians are now saying.  I'm sure many of my international friends have already heard how the voice of Irish politics has taken a shift to the left.  Sinn Féin has won the popular vote.  It's been covered in Global media and seems to have shocked most, as Sinn Féin is rooted in history.

Sinn Féin is a left-wing socialist type party. To make a long story short  Sinn Féin is the political wing of the former IRA.  The IRA disarmed many years ago. But history is still there and Global media are keeping it in the present with the associations made in reports and publications.

Never the less, the Irish people have spoken, the bastards.  Like what?  Sinn Féin hasn't managed to run council departments let alone government departments.  Do you know who they were running for a seat?  Sure I will give you a laugh.  Do you remember that MMA fighter " The Hooligan ",  Paddy Holohan. Well, he is now a politician. But he got suspended following extremely offensive comments.  Thanks be to f**k.

If I wanted to see entertainment in politics (although it is entertaining) then I will watch a bit of Trump.  For a bit of left entertainment, Le Pen does the job.  But when it comes to running Ireland, entertainment is not what I want! looks like others do, the people have spoken.

What's funny is, no one will admit to me they voted for Sinn Féin.  With such a large vote there is no way I know no one that voted for them.  No way possible.  Not only are they bastards but they are also liars. Damn.  That's real friends for ya.

My take on that is people wanted change.  Sinn Féin never did well and so no one expected this. So everyone gave them a vote, thinking no one else will and they won't get into government anyway.  Wow did that backfire or what.

I'd say my British friends are hating this too.  It's not over with Britex and Sinn Féin want a united Ireland. The border has been a problematic part of the divorce and mark my word, Sinn Féin will want to have their say.

But it might not happen.  With the way Irish elections work, although Sinn Féin got the larger number of first preference votes, they did not run enough candidates to fill a government and so now they must form a partnership with others.  It's hard to tell what will happen.  Some have said outright they will not share power with Sinn Féin, but others are open to talks.

The political landscape around the world is changing.  Trump, Le Pen, Sinn Féin, Brittex.  It's interesting, to say the least.  And for sure I never cease to be surprised.

Maybe they will have a stand still do nothing couple of years. Then again, with lack of experience perhaps they will bring something new to the table. Common sense and Politics are a couple of words that for what ever reason never seem to meet any where near the middle ground, so perhaps a change, most likely it will just go to show the people it does not matter who you vote for things are not going to change.

When did the Brits decide to Brexit? When will it happen? Will it happen? Change, it is always there on the cusp when it comes to politics, until a new wind blows.

"most likely it will just go to show the people it does not matter who you vote for things are not going to change" sensible words and interesting times

Yea the brits are leaving, but there is another time frame for stuff. to be honest its going on that long I lost interest. Just dont let the door hit ya on the way out is my take right now lol

Politicians are good at dragging things out until people just get tired of the same ole song and dance, and instead of not voting for them next time around, they just them have their way. Lost interest, soon it will be politicians asking the question why are we spending so much money to Bexit? DO we really need to put our country in debt over this? Let's just see if the people really still want this and hold another of our endless votes and then we can put it all behind us and move on to our new Utopia we are trying to get the people to build for us.

It's like when the government does something wrong, and someone takes them to court, they just keep delaying and delaying until the person runs out of money or dies.

I have just become to jaded as I have aged I guess, in both people and governments, no one really wants to stand up and be counted anymore.

I can feel the jadedness from your comment, and I dont blame you. Many people feel the same and hence the surprise election results

I like Brittex actually! Makes it sound like Tippex so when/if it ever finishes, we can just put that correction fluid over it and start afresh...with a slightly rougher bit where the tippex is (I was never any good at using that stuff, always flaked away from the page as well, grrr haha).

From my personal experience erection fluid only makes situations worse, never better

What you do in your spare time is up to you

hehehehhehehehhe that statement just changed the tone of things around here, love it

OMG I just love this " Tippex ". I'm laughing so much because you are just so right

I think we’re not looking at these situations all around for what it is be if left, right, communist, socialist or capitalist governments have and continue to fail!

I believe it’s the natural order for us to become more disillusioned and start to take back individual rights and responsibilities!

They’re only saving grace is the fear that without government there would be absolute chaos

I totally agree with the fact that without government there would be chaos and so I am not anti-establishment. In fact, I am pro-establishment (and pro taxes) although at times it might sound like I am not. There is also a stigma with blockchain that it is anti-establishment. But I guess you are right, people are trying to take back rights and responsibilities, it would be better though if we were all singing of the same sheet

It's worth a shot instead of rotating fine gael for fine fail and back again every election as they both laugh to the bankers about robbing the country once again. At least the hope is that sinn fein will balance out the last few governments that only care about dublin and big business while abandoning the rest of the country.

There is a lot of rage out there as about 20 of the counties outside the pale are on their knees. Fine gael were very good in the brexit situation and with europe but the forgot about their own country as people are abandoned by the wayside. Fine Fail are the same group with different jackets. I hope they can form a government this time and see if sinn fein can do something useful or are just talk.

So it was you then.....ya bastard. I live in Dublin and liked being looked after by the crooked backhanders. FFS. First you culchies come to dublin and take our jobs, now you want to change the governments. tut tut tut.

It was all the culchies really. Look how many sine fein stormed the polls in the first count. We don't mind a few ira lads getting in with them. Plenty still around down our side.

We need reunification of Dublin back into Ireland. We want our 26 counties back again.

Aah to be sure to be sure...my ancestry may be Irish a few generations back apparently, and I do love the spirit of the poets like The Waterboys.
Now I would love to see a united Ireland once more and kiss goodbye to the imperialist crown. And if Italy can put a comedian in parliament, and USA a clown, then why not a bloody street brawler in Ireland ey? The days of career politicians winning elections is coming to an end I hear. Now it is about whoever can shout the loudest as we descend from populism further down to anarchy.
The crowd voted for Sin Fein because they are fed up with the feckin empire man.

Love it - thanks for making me smile :-)

Aww a bit of Trump lol, what a mess! I sent ya a Valentine's Day badge I hope you get it! The instructions were pretty simple, username and Happy Valentine, let me know please! 😀 And you are amazing! It is quite baffling what is happening to the world's political leaders. Sheesh..we will leave that there.

Thanks for the Valentines badge :-) I got it

yea the global political landscape is changing indeed and yep we should just leave it there as there is enough drama on steem to keep us busy
