Steemit Good News Story - The Act of Giving is Alive and Well on Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Giving is made easy on Steemit. The technology used on the Steem Blockchain allows each of us easily make transfers to other accounts within a matter of seconds and at no cost.  There is no complicated wallet address, all you need is the steemit account name.

We have all been working hard as of late.  With the price of SBD and STEEM high, more and more is being drained from the reward pool each day.

But while we are all working so hard earning what we can, some people are giving.  They are donating and they are gifting.  All here on Steemit.

Let me tell you a quick story shared with me by @stellabelle

@stellabelle sent @alexandravart a gift of 250 STEEM for Christmas.  After this @anonymous.donor account saw what stella did, and also sent her 500 STEEM

And this is not the end of it.

@anonymous.donor account was set up 2 months ago with a transfer of STEEM from Blocktrades

Its first transaction was 500 STEEM to @dreamsoftheocean.  @dreamsoftheocean The First Steem-backed Charity Project That Supports Kids Through Watersports Activities and you can read the intro post here

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@dreamsoftheocean/introducing-dreams-of-the-ocean-the-first-steem-backed-charity-project-that-supports-kids-through-watersports-activities

Last month 2 more donations were made by @anonymous.donor

And this month even more gifts

 Just like that.

And it’s not over there.  I was reading the comments @anonymous.donor left on an Auction post for some art work.

Here is how it went.  A bid went in, and @anonymous.donor outbid and won.  But then

The act of giving is truly alive and well on Steemit.

It was from this that I decided to look at some data.  After all it is the season of giving right?  So using my trusted tool of Power BI I connected to the Steemsql database held and managed by @arcange and I pulled all the transfers that included the words ‘gift’ ‘donation’ and ‘encouragement’.

After this I further filtered the data to include transfers to and from voting bots and any memo that contained a direct link to a post by the person making the transfer and I also filtered out any transaction that were less than .9 SBD or STEEM.  The reason for this final filter was that many transfers were sent with a token transfer to get the attention of the account it was sent to

SBD Gifts

159 people gifted a total of $1.51K SBD to 136 lucky people.  At the time of writing SBD was $7.44.  That’s equivalent to US$11,234

STEEM Gifts

91 steemains gifted $2.98K STEEM to 105 lucky people.  At the time of writing STEEM was $2.77. That’s equivalent to US$8,254

Conclusion

In total almost US$20,000 was transferred in gifts in the month of December.  And remember, that’s limited to the memo including one of the key words mentioned above.  The real value of gifts remains unknown, but the spirit of gifting is alive and well on Steemit.

Have you every though of Gifting?  Do you see people on Steemit working hard and would like a way to rewards them for the efforts (we all know that posts don’t always earn their value)?  Are you going to gift in 2018?

Aaaahhh yesss!!!

I literally just wrote a post on this yesterday saying how the greatest joy is in gifting someone else something!!

I plan on sending SBD to a hell of a lot of people on Steemit!

Just because they are cool cats and I think they are doing amazing things for the community!

I REALLY love this gifting economy on here.
It makes me one happy woman!

Keep on the good work.... I wish you could show me some love also 😃thank u very much

Part of my 2018 resolution is to promote what I believe is the "ethical" and "selfless" use of upvote bots. I've already begun placing bids on posts that resonate with me, and will start using them regularly as prizes for contests/challenges or just to show more support for an author than I could with my own upvote.

awesome idea. I really like this :-)

Considering you can send directly to the recipient, and that your donation is visible to everyone; steem will be a powerful source of charitable giving in the years to come.

Awesome!

You have inspired me to put a twist on my curation league post that i'll do later today.

I wonder if I met this kind person at SF2 also?!

you probably did :-)

I've seen quite a few more people discussing making gifts in the last day or two. I have half of my SBD (at the time) away on Christmas Eve to help minnows and there are people like @bitrocker2020 who've used donations from the Steemit community to help an orphanage.

While it's great to see, it's important to do some due diligence. I was in Japan in 2011 after the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disasters and saw people like the Japan Red Cross sit on $1 billion in donations for a year (my hypothesis is that they wanted to accrue the interest for themselves). I saw e-mails from people in other countries asking if the recipient in Japan would take a photo of themselves wearing the t-shirt with the logo of an organisation that purported to be a charity that was working in the disaster area and seeking further funding.

There is a role for those who have a high profile in the Steemit community to assist with vetting worthy recipients. Are there any people whom you can think of who are trustworthy enough for such a role?

surely giving is good been reading lot of appreciation post lately and like I once said the steem blockchain is here to stay and already changing life's

nice inspirational post @pualag yes steem is setting a good platform to help with other steem family members for noble cause. keep sharing

there are so many good news stories on steemit, it is nice to share them :-)

Wow! This is a clear indication that the spirit of giving is roaming around in this platform which is worthy to be embraced. Thanks for your post ,it really encouraged me to give but I just started in this platform .but I believe if things turn well for my side I will give. Because ,you touch my spirit man and show me the essence giving.

I am very proud of the steemit account that gives ease to all steemit players, especially when steam transfers or sbd to other accounts there is no cuts at all. This is a very valuable convenience for all of us. I am also happy with you for sharing many stories about steemit. All the best for you @paulag
