When is "enough is enough"?

Have you ever felt like enough is enough?

Have you ever wondered when it is time to say, enough is enough?

Driving in the car yesterday the radio station I was listening to played a song by John Berry. I was so touched by the words that I just had to find the lyrics online.

We had it all
We were living out our dream
So caught up in the moment
We never took the time to breathe
And I believe a little more was all I was looking for
[Chorus]
When is enough, enough?
Under heaven above
We've been given so much
When is enough, enough?

Truer words than these you cannot get. We get so caught up in the moment that we forget to live out our dreams.

If I had to ask you right now who is the most important person in your life close to a 100% will answer that it is either their parents, partner, or children. Very few will answer “ME”.

You should be the most important person in your life. In fact, if you don’t exist there will be no other relationships to be formed.

No one is indispensable and people will come and go in your life but, you will always be there regardless of who is with you. So, why not put yourself first and say, “Enough is enough!”

Enough is enough at work!
Enough is enough with your family!
Enough is enough with your relationships!

It sounds so much easier said than done.

I am one of those that will rather keep my mouth and just keep on going. This is mainly because I hate conflict, I often see putting an end to something as a failure, and I don’t want to be seen as a person that gives up easily not by others and for sure not by myself.
Does this sound familiar?

Enough is enough is not giving up!

It is putting your foot down, drawing that line in the sand, and putting a stop to something. I’ve learned over the years that I have to take action if I want to protect my boundaries.

We are all in different situations therefore our reasons for putting an end to something will differ. However, there are clear signs that will tell us that the time has arrived to say enough is enough.

  • You are stressed out and feel totally drained
  • When you cannot find yourself saying no
  • When you take the blame for others
  • You don’t recognize yourself anymore
  • You are not completing tasks and achieving goals
  • You are not respected for who you are and what you do
  • You find others making decisions for you and
  • Many other reasons

Taking action is not always easy. So often it is a difficult decision you have to make and often there is no turning back. You have to put your head down and make it work. “You have made your bed so you must sleep in it”. Words we are so familiar with.

Growing up there was a clear path set out for me. My parents wanted me to go to university and study a field they have chosen for me. Thereafter would be finding a good job, getting married, and having children. This was their idea and the end of the discussion. I had other ideas. I had to put my foot down and told them that enough is enough. It is my life and I want to do what I think is best for me and my intelligence level.

I left home and moved away to the unknown knowing that I could never ask them for help. Of course, I experienced separation anxiety but I was determined to make a success of my life. I also experienced difficult times but it was my life and I was living it.

I knew my reason for saying enough is enough and I knew that there was no turning back. I had to make it work whatever it takes and I did.

There is also a beautiful side to enough is enough.

What a glorious feeling it was this morning when I opened the door and saw two brown faces staring at me through the safety gate. Our dogs are home!

Enough is enough! They had to come home!

After nearly 14 hours on the road yesterday fetching them they are now where they belong, home.

I am always amazed: you write things about yourself that don't seem to me to fit at all with the woman I read here. You seem so straightforward in your contributions that I find these reflections really remarkable.

Enough is always enough - otherwise it wouldn't be "enough". I would not use the word inflationarily, but only when it fits. And then there is no need for a second affirmation or underpinning, because then everything has been said...

Remarkable reflections... wow! Thank you!
The experts say that we don't learn from experience but from reflection therefor it is so important for person growth.

"everything has been said" In Afrikaans, "fluit fluit my storie is uit" (•ิ‿•ิ)

Congratulations!

Awh thank you @abiga554!🎕
It is appreciated!

Wise words... indeed, sometimes we do have to say that enough is enough.

I suppose we are all trained to not put ourselves first, because that would be "selfish." But there's a big difference between actual selfishness, and the practice of healthy self-care.

Happy for you your dogs are home!

But there's a big difference between actual selfishness, and the practice of healthy self-care

You've nailed it! Selfishness and self-care. The difference is huge.

Self-care is all about replenishing yourself when you are running low on "fuel" Or should you I say, replenishing yourself when you are running low on steem. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Thank you for the visit and the engagement.
