ICELAND - Last Photos: Spot the Seal!

in #photography7 years ago

Hey Guys,

Well, technically I have some more photos, but I think the best ones are now already posted.
If you have enjoyed my photos of Iceland, I do have one more thing in store:

A stabilized Go Pro video.

Jup, A stabilized Go Pro video with the highlights of Iceland starring me and my GF.
So before you get super excited (who am I kidding), I will save this video for another time.
I think a proper introduction is first needed and after I've done that you'll see the Iceland video.
I'm always concerned about my privacy and since every word I type gets stored in this blockchain, I may be a bit paranoid.

Here they come

Seals in the glacier lagoon

Seals? I only see one seal?

While you only see one seal in the photo, the splash is created by another seal which wanted to show off it's near perfect backstroke. In the glacier lagoon, you can occasionally see some seals swimming, if you are lucky. Apparently, we were very lucky as we saw a lot of them that day.

Road to an airplane wreck

The actual wreck you will see in the movie I talked about earlier.

When you start this walk, you think it'll take 10 maybe 15 minutes to get to the airplane. After walking for 45 minutes you start seeing the airplane on the horizon. Although the wreck was worth it, we felt like a wreck after walking back to the car (pun intended).

Sneaker Wave

At least 2 meter high, the white you see at the bottom is snow.

I talked about these in the previous post. When you walk on the black sand beach, everything is fine. There can be quite some tourists and there are some signs which warn you about sneaker waves. You laugh about it, continue to walk to the sea and see someone with their back to the sea about to get swallowed by a sneaker wave. That is the moment when you know the danger is real. You see small waves, want to take a picture of some epic rock formation and RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT you know there is some sneaker wave in your back. You turn around: No sneaker wave. You take the picture, BAM! Sneaker wave that drags you into the ocean in freezing temperatures. Tourists die here every year.

  • Somebody should make me a sneaker wave badge already for saying sneaker wave the most amount of times in one post on Steemit.

Waterfalls
DSC_0044.jpg
this one isn't that high right there, but trust me, it's great once you see it on the video

Basically, you will see so many beautiful waterfalls in Iceland that at one point you don't stop the car anymore to check them out. There are just too many of them and Iceland has much more to offer than the heavily marketed waterfalls.
