Microsoft Windows is a series of operating systems developed and marketed by Microsoft. There are versions for homes, businesses, servers and mobile devices, as well as for pocket computers and smartphones. It incorporates various applications such as Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Windows Defender, Windows Media Center, WordPad, Paint, among others. For many years it has been the most widely used and used operating system in the world; in fact, most programs (both commercial and free) are originally developed for this operating system. Below is a summary of Microsoft's Windows operating systems for personal computers.
Windows is one of the most used operating systems. Its compatibility and openness to almost all processors has helped the program created by Microsoft to position itself in the market for desktop computers and laptops. Now, with Windows 10, the Californian company seeks to become strong on mobile devices such as tablets. This is the evolution of Windows, although we have left out some little-known versions.

WINDOWS 1.0 (1985). With this everything started. It was Microsoft's first 16-bit operating system and ran with DOS. It was Microsoft's first attempt to implement a multi-tasking graphical operating environment for a personal computer. It was presented to the public on November 10, 1983.
WINDOWS 1.02 (1986). The "international" version of the first Windows was not very welcome. Operating system of 16 bits of Microsoft and ran with DOS.

WINDOWS 2.0 (1987). This version lost ground compared to Mac's graphical interface operating system. It appeared in 1987, and was a bit more popular than the initial version. Much of that popularity was due to the fact that it included new graphic applications, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for Windows.

WINDOWS 3.0 (1990). The first of the Windows operating systems that became popular. His later versions emphasized using the multimedia elements and fixing programming errors. Windows 3.x is the generic name with which it is usually known to Windows versions 3.0, 3.1 and 3.11 for personal computers. Microsoft Windows was never really an Operating System with true graphical environment until Windows 95.

WINDOWS 95 (1995). The next step in evolution was a step to modernity in 32 bits. It integrated the first "Start" bar and the ability to add widgets to the desktop. It is an operating system with hybrid graphical user interface between 16 and 32 bits. It was published on August 24, 1995 by Microsoft with remarkable sales success. During its development it was known as Windows 4 or by the name of Chicago. It replaced MS-DOS as the operating system and Windows 3.x as the graphical environment. It fits within the family of Microsoft operating systems called Windows 9x.

WINDOWS 98 (1998).

WINDOWS XP (2001). Much more stable, easy to use and popular than its predecessors. It was at the time the best selling system. Released on October 25, 2001. The letters "XP" come from the word eXPerience in English.

WINDOWS VISTA (2006). No one received it well: although it was graphically good, it consumed many system resources. It is an operating system developed by Microsoft and designed to be used in desktop computers, laptops, Tablets PC and multimedia centers. On January 30, 2007, it was launched worldwide and was made available to be purchased and downloaded from the Microsoft website.

WINDOWS 7 (2009). This operating system redeemed Microsoft and became the fastest selling in history. It is one of the most recent versions of Microsoft, to be used in personal computers, office equipment, laptops, tablets, netbooks, and media center equipment. Its official release date was October 22, 2009.

WINDOWS 8 (2012). The most dramatic change so far, removed the famous start bar and began to work with a mosaic of icons. Windows 8 is a version of Microsoft Windows, operating system developed by Microsoft, to be used in PC computers, laptops, tablets and the like. It was finally released on October 26, 2012, with great expectation, due to the great changes announced. The most obvious change was the interface, now oriented to multitouch screens. The main screen consists of large tiles that represent applications and can display updated weather information, news, a specific application, etc. The Desktop became another Windows program. Now there is the possibility of applications for the mosaic or applications to run on the Desktop. The start button disappeared from the taskbar, to access the programs is done through the mosaics or looking for them by entering their name.

WINDOWS 10 (2015). It will reach all compatible devices on July 29, 2015. The new version of Windows will be available for smartphones, tablets and PCs, both desktop and portable.
It is one of the most anticipated operating systems after having won the hearts of many with interesting features. We'll have to wait to see what's new in the latest version.
