POTTING FLOWERS WITH PARADISE

in #photograph7 years ago (edited)

Every year I spend a day or two planting 30 or so flower planters for our backyard deck area. The effect is that the yard looks like a park. I even have a fountain. We have an annual 4th of July party at our house and normally have upwards of 75 attendees. So a few weeks ago, before my Florida trip, I did the planting. I couldn't wait for my return, everything needed to be blooming for the 4th of July.
So to get started I went and purchased the things I needed at a local flower shop.

Here is a look at some of my purchases

And here is some of my pots that I'll be planting today.

I start with a bag of potting mix, I use a wheel burrow.

Add some Sphagnum peat moss, which helps aerate the soil as well as retain moisture.
Mix the potting soil and peat moss well, I use a hoe for this.

Here is the fertilizer I'm using this year.

Ok, now I start filling planters with my soil mix, and planting my baby flowers.
So I push my fist into the soil and place the baby geranium in the hole.

Remember to add some fertilizer as you go.

My first row of geraniums is completed.

Ok, moving on to my favorites the begonia's!! Begonia's always do very well in our backyard, so I purchased 3 colors this year.

And the two rows of begonia's are complete.

Moving on to another pot size, and more begonia's!
This is what my tailgate looks like at this point.

Planting begonia's in 6" pots for my tower planter.

6" pots done, another row completed.

Now I'm gonna plant some miscellaneous planters.
I have some more begonia's, some tulips, more geraniums.

Planting some long boxes.

Here are the planters completed, 32 planters in all.
I used 6 bags of potting soil and maybe 1/4 bag of peat moss.

COMING SOON

I will show you how the flowers have grown over the past few weeks.
And also a look at our backyard park!!

This is Paradise Found and I hope you enjoyed this post!
