The Absurd Nature Of Bureaucracies in 10 Minutes (feat. "The Twelve Tasks of Asterix")

Fewer cartoons have struck more to the core of the matrix we all find ourselves in than a segment from an old Asterix & Obelix comic, put into motion back in 1976 that still dwarves most cartoons I ever come across these days when it comes to quality of message. No exaggeration!

It's taken from one of the better movies made in the Asterix & Obelix universe where the two heroes have to put themselves through 12 tasks in order to prove to the Roman emperor that they must in fact be gods (because their village is so impossible to conquer by the Roman Empire and only gods could so vehemently resist the might of Rome).

The reason I keep drawing people's attention to the movei and this segment though is two-fold: First of all many Americans I have talked to are not that familiar with Asterix & Obelix to begin with and it's a beautiful thing to watch at least once in your life...

But even moreso: The specific task they have to do here in this segment relates to bureaucracy. The horrors of bureaucracy. Bureaucracy at its finest!

The cartoon has aged amazingly, still gives me the giggles and I really can't think of any better analogy for a centralized system of control like the governmental structures of our age than this cartoon manages to display.

I could spoiler it here for you but really: Why should I?

Let's just say that if you have ever gotten pissed off by going to a governmental office, if you ever felt played because you didn't fill out the right form or you didn't think to check a stupid box on a piece of paper resulting in outlandish and absurd fines... you will want to see this.

And while you're at it: Do include your kids. It's a most family friendly comic and harbors great lessons about the system structure most people call reality today even if the setting itself is fictional.

So what are you waiting for? If you have never seen this do invest those ten minutes of your life and if you have - do watch it again and show it to someone you love today. I would almost bet that anyone above the age of 20 can relate to this sort of thing, and anyone under that age will have a marvellous time just the same ;) The whole movie is amazing but this scene is absolutely priceless!
