Catch your fresh Sunday lunch!steemCreated with Sketch.

On our way home from church we took a different route past the ocean!

Just as well that we did, as this post is about the local's daily life at the sea and we came away from it with some new ideas. Most of the holiday visitors have left to go back to their homes up country and the beach is slowly returning back to normal life. I have heard stories about the abundant fish in the bay and today it was confirmed, as many souls were out in the morning to catch their Sunday lunch.
All of the photos were taken out of my car window as we travelled along the beach road on our way home.
Let's have a look!

IMG_3622.JPG

Here you can see the view as we approached to turn onto the beach road!

IMG_3564.JPG

This is how the locals take their dogs walkies!

IMG_3567.JPG

We spotted the first fisherman out there on the rocks!

IMG_3569.JPG

We were too late to see this guy with the kite fishing, as he was busy packing up!

IMG_3597.JPG

Ah! Some more fishermen here on a reef doing their thing!

IMG_3601.JPG

Now here is the heart of my story. This lady is also on her way and her fishing rod is tucked into the back of the baby stroller!

IMG_3603.JPG

But the thing is that the lady has her family with her. Four little kids to feed and let's hope that she caught enough fish to give them all a nice lunch.
Next Sunday morning we plan to meet this lady here at the beach to see if we can help in any way!

The sun is very sharp here, but you can see a woman and two guys fishing on the rocks and behind them is a guy in a kayak trawling his line in the water.
Trawling means that you drop your fishing bait and hook in the water and then you drag it with a floater near the surface some lengths behind the boat.

IMG_3611.JPG

This is a better look at the guy in the kayak, as he paddles along dragging the bait behind him in the water!

IMG_3617.JPG

Now onto a different subject, it is cruel to leave a dog in a car as security against thieves in this heat.
Dogs have hairy coats and the heat is almost doubled in temperature for them in the confines of a car.
This guy was desperately trying to get out!

IMG_3628.JPG

Finally, here is our little Troy sound asleep at my feet as I type this post up.
Too hot for him on his blankets even with the roof fan going and he finds the carpets a cooler resting place!

And That's All Folks!

So what did we come away with from this short excursion?
Well, for one, we have to investigate how many un-employed people try to survive with catches from the ocean. Then we have to arrange a meeting with them and get them to appoint a leader to have discussions with us about their needs and how Papillon can help them. I prefer to do things this way, as experience has taught me that only when a project has community input and trust will it be viable. It is folly to force one's own ideas on people, as it is sure to fail and the best way is that the community must feel that they have done it for themselves.
Ownership is most important.

The second thing that we must do is to draft a letter to the local municipality in charge of the beach guards that will insist on the patrollers keeping an eye out for animals left in vehicles. Municipalities always need money and hefty fines will serve a dual purpose, as they will have an income and people will hopefully learn not to leave their animals in cars.
Sounds like a plan?
Please let me have your ideas!

Note: We are not busy bodies or complainants, as Papillon is a registered non-profit in South Africa and it is our job to assist the communities in any way that we can. This is what we do every day!

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and thank you for visiting the blog of @papilloncharity

For people leaving a pet in the car, they should be punished. An animal relies on us for protection and to keep them safe.

As for the other. Yes! I agree. Taking away their sense of pride is a deep blow to them. Making it their own idea always works best! We all like our own cooking, yes?

Have a great night and hope you have lights this week!

Thank you Lady Denise and I too hate to see what some people do to their animals. Hopefully we can make some waves.

Dignity restoration is a big issue in our work and the little children is a concern as they are taught the wrong things in life. We even have women sitting at traffic lights with begging cups with their small ones sitting next to them in order for the people to feel sorry for them.
What they don't realize is that they are teaching their children to become beggars.

Much work awaits.
Blessings and thank you for the kind tip my dear friend!

I would love to be on the beach and fishing ...
Although I do not understand what you are doing to help those communities, I am convinced that you are doing something good. You have all my esteem!

Thank you my friend. I will do a year end report post soon to show the work that we do in the communities. It is indeed good work.
A bit too hot here for the beach as we are in the peak of summer. Early morning and late afternoon is the best times.
Blessings!

My pleasure! I look forward to reading the post.

A kind thank you for the support!

Lovely that they have that resource close to home. I had heard stories when there was great inflation in some places fishing was often a good way to spend your time when your money was not really worth much!
Be interesting to see what initiatives the community comes up with!
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you dear friend what we have found before in other areas is that they need some small business training.
Of course we also expect many other requests and we will prioritize them to see how we can help.
The thing is to never make empty promises to the people, as then they will reject us.
Let's see how it goes!
Blessings!
