I LOVE GETTING FISH THIS WAY!

in #food7 years ago (edited)

So bowfishing is a lot of fun, but anything is better than the store in my opinion.

With my new hobby bowfishing fully in effect, I'm having a lot of fun working on my aim and providing some food for the family. With a little-pepper or two to help, we've been enjoying a lot of "lake time" lately, and really putting some fish into storage. This is the way to do it, and the price is right!!!

CARP, IT'S WHAT FOR DINNER!

As far as fish is concerned, like with many foods, you can either get your own or purchase some. When I consider sitting in an office, factory, or warehouse to earn some money, then paying some taxes on it, and spending the remainder on some fish, there's a reason why I think I've found a better option.

Yeah, I'll gladly cut out all of them "middle men" and just get them fish myself. Carp by day, suckers by night, and it's night again!!! Honestly, I've been filleting a lot of fish these past couple days.

That's just the fillets from today, a sink full, and that's over thirty large fillets. Of course not everyone is into eating carp, and I get that, but that just means that there are more for us! LOL!

I already froze the ones from yesterday, spread out on some sheets so they wouldn't all freeze together. This makes it much easier to use them later.

Then, we can bag them up as individuals. Some of these will be stored frozen, while others may be canned or pickled. We've got some ideas, just I like to freeze them first anyway to help kill any potential parasites or other "undesirables."

Thankfully, we really enjoy eating fish, and it pairs well with Green Brier, which is also currently in season. We'll see how things go tonight!

Until next time…

Well, nothing is fresher than the fish you caught yourself. And damn, those are some big fishes. I really want to give bowfishing a try but I live in the city and there's no river or lake nearby.

Yeah, country life has some benefits. Maybe one day you can try.

I knew last night you Were Going to GRILL It...............@papa-pepper

I like smoked carp. It's almost like normal meat.

This is how I smoke it. First it stays bit in oil, garlic and spices.

Decentralization at it's finest! As you seem intent on filling a freezer with fillets, I strongly recommend a vacuum sealer. It really extends the freezer life of meat - everything really - and they're pretty inexpensive nowadays. I picked mine up for a dollar at a garage sale a year ago, with two rolls of bag material I haven't come close to using up.

Thanks!

Great idea! Thanks. We'll be canning and pickling some too, I just like to freeze it first, but some will definitely be staying in the freezer too, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for one of those.
