Why do People Plagiarize?

There are many people today in our society that are in one way or the other claiming the right to others people work. Many at times i begin to wonder why people involve themselves in such a bad act. Plagiarism in it's simplest meaning is the act of using another person's work or idea without giving credit to that person. This act is very common mostly to students in higher institution probably during the period of project writing or their thesis.

Most of the time as well, some bloggers also find themselves in such a big mess, going to another website to copy an article and posting it on their own blog without being specify that the work does not actually belong to them. I want to believe every human being is created with one or two ideas and everyone is unique in his/her own idea as there is no idea that we can really say supersede another. That is one of the reason why we will always have different write up on the same topic because our approaches can never be the same.

There is no how we will be giving the same topic to write on and we will come up with the same articles word for word, although we may be driving towards the dame direction but there is no how our write up will be the same. Plagiarism is a serious issue and offense that is punishable under the law, so if you find our that someone is claiming the right to your work without giving you the honour, you have every right to sue such a person.

Now coming back to the question why people engages in such an act, personally i will say it is due to laziness. Laziness in the sense that they feel it is most stressful at times to sit down and come up with something readable and educating, instead, they can just go to the internet and copy other people's work.

There are some people who also plagiarize and never know it is an offense because they are not fully aware of the fact that what they have actually done is a crime that is punishable under the law. We need to educate people around us on this because it is really a bad act. We can make use of other people's work and don't there is any crime in that but at the end of the work, we need to have reference that will be pointing the source of the work or probably a phrase we make use of in our work. Plagiarism can come in different ways and it is not restricted to writing alone, there is also what we called image plagiarism and video plagiarism in as much as we are using what doesn't belong to us, we have to source it properly.
