Landing on a kite anchor
If you are ever in a position to kite alone and do not have anyone to land your kite at the end of the session. Please remember that it is always an option to flag the kite. But if you need to, you can set up a landing anchor and land your kite to a while attached to a fixed object. This allows you to detach from the kite and then land the kite yourself while alone.
The process of launching and landing kites is when most of the injuries in the sport occur.
It is essential that you understand the wind window concept and the power zone concept when launching and landing a kite.
To land and launch from an anchor or any fixed object can be quite dangerous as well and it’s important that you follow some simple guidelines.
Here are some basic guidelines for landing your kite to an anchor.
Land your kite in the neutral zone and let go of the bar before hooking your kite to the landing anchor.
Make sure the landing anchor has all of the slack removed from the line before detaching yourself from the chicken loop.
When the kite is on the anchor you should not EVER touch the bar. If the kite starts to rise in the air and do something crazy and dangerous, do not try to fix it by grabbing ahold of the bar. Instead, you should just flag the kite releasing it from the anchor and then recover your kite later. You do not want the kite to be flying dragging an anchor behind it.
That basically covers the do’s and don’ts to landing your kite on an anchor.
Launching your kite from an anchor is a whole new process and requires a different understanding. Be sure to stay tuned for instructions on how to launch a kite from an anchor.
