TRUST, THE MOST VALUABLE CURRENCY
A wise man once said that it takes an act of betrayal for a man to release that the most valuable currency in this world is not money but trust. And if you don't have trust then what have you? Trust is simply the confidence in or reliance on someone or something. It is the dependence we have upon something in the future. A friend of mine says that he chooses to trust people until they prove otherwise, he is a believer in human goodness. Me on the other hand, no so much. While I believe that there's a lot of goodness in the world, I also think that it is not for me to risk my life in testing to see who is good and who is not. People can be very deceptive, sometimes due to no fault of theirs. It is for this reason that I choose to be a skeptic yet quite open minded. I give everyone I meet a fair opportunity to prove themselves trustworthy, but until then, I prefer to limit their access to certain vital aspects of my life.
Stephen Richards Covey was an American educator, author, businessman, and keynote speaker. He once noted:
Trust is the glue of life. It's the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It's the foundational principle that holds all relationships.
I believe that trust is key to the success of every human relationship. But it is a two way street, you shouldn't expect trust if you don't give it. While it is important to trust, trust shouldn't be handed on a silver platter. If someone wants your trust, they should be willing to earn it. Equally important, if a person gives you their trust, you should respect and honor it as much as you can. They say trust that is broken can never be completely restored. Some have likened this situation to a crumpled paper, as hard as you may try, you will never be able to fully straighten it up.
So trust, but be sure the other person is worth your trust first, and if you are lucky to get trusted, guard it.
