Shyness- How to deal with it

in #life4 years ago

Shyness is a problem that affects 40-60% of adults and is still not taken seriously. Most treat it as a minor inconvenience. In fact, shyness can prevent us from developing strong relationships with other people (and they, as studies show, are the main guarantee of happiness!) And even ruin our careers.

Getting over shyness doesn't mean you need to change your personality and who you are. Think of it as a skill that will help you on your path to success.

Many people who suffer from shyness avoid companionship to avoid feeling uncomfortable. After all, none of us wants to make a bad impression at the first meeting, right? But if we want to develop, we will have to cope with our fears. Every time you miss a party, important event or meeting to avoid discomfort and anxiety, the problem only gets worse. Our actions are the consequences of our thoughts.

Doing these exercises regularly in this sequence will help you to always be in a friendly frame of mind. Over time, it will become much easier for you to solve social problems of any complexity, because you can quickly change your mood.

Before walking, think about what you plan to do and how it will be done. Visualize everything down to the smallest detail: how you introduce yourself, how you get to know others, and how you end the conversation.

Imagine all possible situations and how you deal with them. Use this exercise as a form of meditation. You can also use relaxing breathing techniques by mentally visualizing different social scenarios.

Overcoming shyness requires constant effort. It is not enough just to think about how to become more social. You will need to schedule this communication in your diary so that it becomes a commitment. For example, browse the list of upcoming events on Facebook and find what is right for you. Go to the events you like and get the most out of them.

If you didn't manage to find anything suitable, gather your courage and, for the sake of experiment, try something that you have never tried before. You can find something completely new that will benefit you in the future.

Share with someone what you want to achieve. You can ask a friend or loved one to support you when you meet new people. Thus, it will be more difficult for you to retreat if you have already agreed with someone.

You can also find a partner or mentor to help you stay on track. In turn, he will keep you in shape all the time, like a real fitness trainer. Therefore, you cannot quit, even if progress is slow. The process of overcoming shyness itself is very difficult, but you can always find someone who already has a clear plan and try to follow it.

It could be just a “hello” on a morning walk, a conversation with a stranger in a cafe, or a networking event, the main thing is to stay consistent. By making one such effort every day, you help your mind get used to sociality. Regularity is important to reinforce your new habit.

How do you behave when you are nervous? Most people will have their hands in their pockets, worry, look down, and breathe frequently. It is very important to learn your body language in order to eliminate negative habits when communicating with someone.

By using positive body language, you make your brain work differently.

These simple exercises will help you develop self-control and prevent your emotions from taking over. Overcoming shyness is only possible through practice, but you will immediately feel the difference.

Cierto, lo que indicas en tu post, además, no hay que confundir la timidez con la introversión, ya que este ultimo es un tema alude a unas bases biológicas de la personalidad, mientras la timidez si es un problema a la hora de relacionarse con otras personas.
