Wake Up and Smell the... Smoke?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #blog9 years ago

I have lived in Southern Oregon for just over a year. The ridiculously hot, dry summers are prime for wild fires. People work their asses off in already uncomfortable weather to prevent the spread of these wild fires. Many of these men and women are volunteering their time to help with absolutely no financial gain to them.

The fires seem to be highlighted a little more this year because a lot of them are in the prime viewing zone for the solar eclipse coming up in a few days. It is estimated that more than a hundred thousand people will be making their way to the full eclipse zone on Monday. Camp fire bans have moved from the standard BLM public land fire ban to even holding off camp fires on private land. Canned and liquid fuel sources such as grills and lanterns are still allowed.

Here's a screenshot I just took on my phone. I'm down in the southwest corner smack dab in the middle of all the fires. The prime full eclipse zone goes through the area that says Three Sisters. In fact I just heard on the news about evacuations in Sisters.

Here's a picture right behind my house. The smoke is pretty thick and it's 3:30 in the afternoon. And it's like this at least in a 50 mile radius from what I've seen with my own eyes. Usually you can see that little mountain clear as day. I went to the store earlier and my eyes were watering because it is so thick. The entire county smells like a campfire!

I just hope that nobody gets hurt and the brave people out there trying to contain these fires aren't having too bad of a time.

Damn, man. That's a lot of wildfires to have to contain. I'd probably be a bit sketched out to wake up to all that smoke behind my house, lol. Hopefully the workers dealing with it are safe and having an okay time like you said.

It's pretty crazy. Last August was my first month in Oregon and we had some fires but it was nothing like this. Definitely a new experience!

Look like dantes peak movie. Keep safe man

I love that movie! Luckily I live far enough away from the mountains that have the most trees on them. I'm in a city in a valley so smoke is the only thing I have to worry about.
