SCIENCE & ITS BRANCHES: INTRODUCTION
Hello beautiful people. Its me again and today, I'm gonna be taking you through few simple things you need to know about Science and its various branches. I hope you can connect well as you read. Thank you.
First of all, you need to know that Science is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe. It is the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.
The branches of science (also referred to as "sciences", "scientific fields", or "scientific disciplines") are commonly divided into various groups:
Physical science is a branch of natural science that studies non-living systems, in contrast to life science. It in turn has many branches, each referred to as a "physical science", together called the "physical sciences". However, the term "physical" creates an unintended, somewhat arbitrary distinction, since many branches of physical science also study biological phenomena and branches of chemistry such as organic chemistry.
Physical science is a broad discipline concerned with natural phenomena of the earth, atmosphere and space. It encompasses a variety of fields that include astronomy, chemistry, geology, physics, atmospheric science and oceanography.
Social science is a major category of academic disciplines, concerned with society and the relationships among individuals within a society. It in turn has many branches, each of which is considered a social science. The social sciences include, but are not limited to: anthropology, archaeology, economics, history, human geography, jurisprudence, linguistics, political science, psychology, public health and sociology. The term is also sometimes used to refer specifically to the field of sociology. Because of its ability to determine cause-and- effect relationships, the laboratory experiment is traditionally considered the method of choice for psychological science.
Life sciences comprise the branches of science that involve the scientific study of organisms: such as microorganisms, plants, and animals including human beings, as well as related considerations like bioethics. While biology remains the centerpiece of the life sciences, technological advances in molecular biology and biotechnology have led to a burgeoning of specializations and interdisciplinary fields.
The Formal sciences are the branches of knowledge that are concerned with formal systems, such as logic, mathematics, theoretical computer science, information theory, systems theory, decision theory, statistics, and some aspects of linguistics.
Lastly, Science generally is the study of the nature and behaviour of natural things.
