Springtime Blues
The garden is currently alive with a sea of blue hues, the delicate sky blues of the forget-me-nots, and the bold blues of the muscari. Even my rosemary bushes are blooming with pale petals.
It's also the time of year in the UK to head out to the woodlands in search of the spectacular sight of bluebells. In ancient woodlands these little blue flowers form a carpet across shaded woodland floors. But be quick to catch a glimpse of this beautiful wonder, their blooms don't last forever!
In preparation for a drawing workshop I am doing this weekend I drew some examples of the blue flowers in my garden, using oil pastels and watercolour pencils.
Oil pastels
The oil pastels work well when layered at capturing the range of blues and purple in the muscari.
Watercolour pencils
The Derwent Inktense watercolour pencils have a nice range of vibrant ink colours when you use a wet paintbrush over the top. It's not a medium that I have much experience of using, but I'm getting used to it!
Always nice to see traditional mediums :)
Thank you, I try to use a variety of new and traditional- depending on what the idea requires.
The bluebells at the bottom of my garden are in full bloom. Love those flowers!
Have you visited any bluebell woods yet? I had a search around my garden and found 3 bluebells.
My garden has about seven, for the life of me I cant find a photo. That might be because I am honking mad drunk just now! Iwill take a phto tomorrow!!

I've always liked those flowers.
Near me there is a large shrub or bush that is BRIGHT yellow at the side of a house down the road, it is striking.

Wonderful rendition! I like how you posted the differing results using different media.
We are using a couple of different mediums in the workshop tomorrow so I needed to make a few examples. It's a slightly different process for me drawing to make examples, than drawing for my own artwork. I need to make it accessible for people of all artistic abilities to try and be easy to explain the stages.
