If you go down to the woods today...
This morning I packed my rucksack with my sketchbook and charcoal and I went off to the woods to draw. As I explained in this morning's post A walk in the woods, I had collected some charcoal the day before from burnt tree branches I had found in the same wood.
Picture taken from my post A walk in the woods
Video 1.03 minutes long. Today's walk in the woods with a bit of drawing too!
Drawing with the charcoal I had picked up from the forest floor.
The difficulty was working out the unique texture and depth of tone of each unique piece of charcoal. Usually my charcoal comes in uniform sticks in a cardboard box! The first couple of drawings were about getting used to the different pieces of burnt wood and the lines and mark making I could get from them.
fanatasticoooo as always
Cooooooooooool @mammasitta !
Autumn atmosphere around :)
Did you find any mushrooms in forest?
No, I don't forage for mushrooms, I don't like the taste plus I'd probably poison myself. I'll leave the culinary foraging to you, I know you're a bit of an expert!
Many thanks for letting us taking part in the whole artistic process. The yellow fits just perfectly. Wood not have thought about that option.
You crack me up @shortcut !
Very creative and beautiful. Loved the video as well!
Thanks @birdie , I would have taken some larger paper with me, but it was a bit breezy today so my sketchbook had to do.
Dont you find the best ever muse in the woods... (retorical)
I love going walking in the woods. Very calming. Drawing there, even better!
Great work as usual Ophelia!!
Thank you @goldmatters , I'm glad you stopped by!
I love this work out of all I ve seen, it is like a dialogue with you and your materials. So inspiring.. Thank you.
I'm glad it spoke to you!
Even something, that is seemingly worthless, as a dead tree, it can provide the tools to create something, as wonderful as art. You used that medium to give birth back to the tree. A full cycle. Something that it is so obvious at first glance it skips of our observation. Many haven't noticed yet. but still the dialogue is there. and you are the carrier of it to us. I just wanted to explain further why I liked this piece more than anything else I've seen from you. you are as excellent as always. Many won't even notice that dialogue but everyone will feel that connection in their own ways I guess.
I am pretty sure you knew what you where doing. or you just felt you should draw trees? I doubt it. ;) this is art.
Yes that is why I went back to the same tree to draw it. But I didn't want to seem too pretentious by going on about it, if that makes sense? I'm glad you realised the cycle that was being created; life into death and back into a new creation.
Great use of the burned tree. I have wondered in the past if there is much of a difference between these two, bought or found.
Only in consistency of the burning, some parts of the larger pieces weren't fully burnt.
Gorgeous as always, :)
Your story was intriguing. I'll have to do that myself some day. I live in southern Arizona so the nearest woods is a hundred miles away. I'll have to search for some burnt tree branches the next time I go to Flagstaff.
Yes do, it's a great way to spend a morning- though you would have to get up early if it's a 100 mile drive!
