Letters: Lawyer-devised "settlement" of coastal lawsuit is a power grab
Despite keeping elected officials in the dark all this time, the plaintiffs’ lawyers steering this legal train wreck have the audacity to suggest that leaders across 12 coastal parishes — half of whom they do not even represent — must unanimously approve the terms of their secret agreement by February.
Interesting article about a settlement over coastal damages by the oil industry and what might happen next. Yeah, this seemed bad from the beginning, a bunch of lawyers looking to make a name for themselves and grab some money at the same time. I'm all for coastal restoration but having lawyers work on their own determining terms doesn't seem right to me. What a mess....
