Our town made the news today when disaster management had to visit the town after yet more violent storms

in #news6 years ago

I have been harping on about the terrible storms we have been experiencing in my little corner of South Africa this week, but last night we had another whopper and made the news. When I drove to work this morning I saw a massive trees downed. Unfortunately I couldn't stop for pictures, as I had to open the shop. Below are news clips and four photos, sourced from local news sites.

This is the downed trees I noticed this morning. Pretty difficult not to notice!

"Nomusa Dube-Ncube, MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), said KZN Disaster teams have been dispatched to areas in Newcastle after a “tornado-like” storm destroyed the township of Osizweni, Dicks Halt, which removed roofs, brought down trees and power lines and left thousands without electricity. "

Damage to businesses in town. Water, wind and hail damage.

“Local disaster teams went out in force and worked around the clock to respond to emergencies and the teams will be given more manpower and energy with the involvement of the provincial disaster management centre‚” said Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube.  “It has become difficult to predict weather patterns due to these uncertain trends under the influence of climate change. Our greatest weapon is to be prepared at all times and stay up to date with reports concerning weather situations‚” she said." https://newcastleadvertiser.co.za/142546/weather-warning-severe-storms-forecast-continue-newcastle/

I typed most of this article at work this afternoon, and the weather had been grumbling the whole afternoon. We got a little rain as we left for home, although the bad weather seems to have blown over for now. But, it is shocking how quickly these storms seem to appear out of nowhere, and we've been experiencing bouts of storms for over two months now, which is unheard of. This strange weather is forecast for the next seven days, I haven't checked a longer term forecast. So far we have two collapsed sections of wall, but otherwise we are okay. One of my customers told me a tree had fallen on his windscreen last night, and destroyed it. I suspect I am going to hear more of these stories.

my condolences, dear@onetree

Thanks

Please accept my condolences, the disaster is unpredictable, so we must always be ready for alert,
we are also very vulnerable to the earthquake and tsunami disaster, we are from Aceh, Indonesia.

Thank you for your kind words. I follow news of the disasters in your country, and ours are nothing in comparison. We don't fully realise how we are at the weather's mercy.

I hope you all to be patient and do not be dissolved in sadness, hopefully the problem that you facing can be finished soon.

Oh wow, I didn't know that this was going on in Newcastle. We had a pretty bad storm in Durban last year in October. Flooding left massive destruction behind and it was so sudden, all in one day. It was pretty surreal.

I remember that, I was following it on the radio all day. I think this weather is our future. And we did it to ourselves.

The stream near your property would be full of rain water by now!?

Yes, I'm sure it is. I don't want to go there for a while because it is so overgrown.

Yes! It might be too risky and dangerous!
Hope the weather is much better now!

The weather is not better. :(

It’s time got another visualization for good weather condition! Last time we didn’t say how long we would want the rain storm to last!
Send thanks to the rain and ask them to rest for how many weeks...
Experiment!

Ouchy, those are some bad bad storms!. Hopefully they pass quick. A daft question but what season is it over there?

It's summer and it is hot as hell!!! The one good thing about the storms is they cool things down.

Summer, I half though that!! That is madness! You expect that guff in Winter!

Our winters are cold and dry!

South Africa is on my bucket list - I would love to see all the wildlife etc .....
I hope your weather improves soon :)

Our wildlife is amazing, we are well worth visiting. This morning I got to work and a piece of the shop's property wall has collapsed.

Oh no!! That doesn't sound good :(

Jeepers. Hope you continue to stay safe, and that the lovely new shop doesn't get affected either. We think it's hot as hell here, and it is for Wellington, but it will be nothing compared to where you are. We had a cooler day yesterday too, which was nice, but luckily without the side effects you got :-(

I just replied to your sister, I have arrived at the shop to find a downed property wall!

At least it's a wall unattached to the shop. Fingers crossed there are no ramifications from it :-(

I'm sure I will be, it is the less privileged that suffer so much in this weather.

onetree , you came out of nowhere and you are killing it in Steem with stunning content. This truly shows that when one is dedicated success does not take long to follow.

onetree is a straight shooter and I am glad to see that he continues to give solid advice.

This is such a load of spam crap.
