Auction Finds - Playtime!

in #auction9 years ago

I have a friend who rarely received toys as childhood presents. Her gifts had to be useful! Today, nearing her forties, she buys them simply to have, even though her kids have outgrown toys. Strangely I never really liked toys and preferred books as presents as soon as I could read. My kids as babies refused to play with baby toys and would rather play with a garden twig or a cardboard box. No matter our childhood preferences, there are always certain items that will push the nostalgia button!

This Wesa Liliput train set is collectible, but a little obscure. The locomotive is made out of metal, but the coaches and tracks are wood. I have never had one before and quite honestly it doesn't seem popular. I usually sell Hornby or Lionel train sets, and they fly!!! (No they don't, they Steem On...okay kill me now!)

Diecasts are ever popular, but they either have to be rare, or mint to sell well. This Matchbox truck is neither.

Smurfs can be valuable if you have a sought after Smurf. Once I listed a lot of about 30 Smurfs plus a Smurf house and other accessories. The lot was the subject of a vigorous bidding war and a Canadian buyer won the auction. He told me he only wanted two of the Smurfs and I could keep the rest! I learned then the rugby Smurf is quite pricey! I sold another one a little later for over R1000 ($74).

Vintage baby toys can be popular, especially Fisher Price. I do remember this Tupperware Shape Sorter from my baby days and it was one toy I remember loving. I bought it for all of my babies and none of them liked it!

Barbie and Ken are perennial favourites. Some of the older dolls, can also be worth something. These 2 Ken dolls are a little disappointing as their bodies are dated to the 1960's, but their heads have been replaced with 1990's models. I have listed them as spare parts.

The Pinocchio moneybox and Pink Panther key ring are not strictly toys, but no-one can say they are not playful!

Interesting finds once more! I worked for a railroad for a while so obviously I am a train nerd and like the train coach set. Another thing I can relate to is Smirf because Smurfs was one of the first movies I remember having enjoyed with my son when he was just beginning to get interested in toons.
