RE: New COMICS & TOYS this week at Comic Shops!!! 9/12/18

Hey @blewitt,

You're the only expert I know (?? kinda "know" lol) in this department... soooo I was hoping to pick your brain on something related!

Honestly, the more I think about this, you could create a post/series on Steemit about it... could possibly be a hit.

Anyway, so I recall a few posts back you mentioned a certain Carnage comic and how it raised in price because of the artist (I think) mentioning it on some radio show. Your tip was to go pick them up right now before the fans/masses found out about the increase and then possibly scoring yourself some profit (or just hodl'ing it if you're a fan, etc.).

I've always been more of a collector than a consumer when it comes to topics of this nature, so your post got me thinking and made me wander into a local collectibles shop. I haven't been to one of these types of stores in years, so as soon as I walked in, I was just overwhelmed with their random assortment of 'stuff'.

Getting to my questions - if you have a moment:

  1. Do you find comic book store owners & employees, or people that own/work at collectibles stores are always current on the thousands of comic books and items they have for sale?
  2. When you visit a new (one that you have not been to before) comic book/collectible store and are faced with rows upon rows of storage boxes full of comics/books, do you try to find specific items that the store may carry? With the intent being that the store does not know the items current/real value.
  3. If I was to visit my local collectibles stores (and I have a few near me, not sure why! lol), can you guide me as to what I should be looking to purchase from a collector/investment perspective? Which key items should I always be on the lookout for? (I don't mean like #1 issues of Spiderman, Superman, etc. lol)

It may sound like arbitrage, and it may actually be that, but I tend to hodl items... but I have no clue what to look for.

For example, and I probably couldn't justify buying this item, but I couldn't help take a picture of it because it reminded me of the @steemmonsters card, Cerberus!

The name plate says: Fluffy

But if the interest in @steemmonsters drove the prices up of cards, packs, etc. and Cerberus saw a spike in interest, someone might be interested in this item... or something along those lines! I think you get the idea lol

Thanks for reading this long-ass comment!!

Cheers,

I am not a big gamer. My problem is mainly time. Owning a comic shop there are always games I would have been interested in trying and playing...like MTG and Heroclix but the shop does not afford me that opportunity. Sadly these games lose me before I even have a chance. :(
