Do you save your MANA ?

HF20 is live and movin'

Hey steemians, how do you feel after HF20?
There are so many complaints now about the recent blackout, and the incompetence of the witnesses. While many statements seem to be true, I don't think these complaints is a very productive route. No doubt witnesses and dev's see very well themselves, how things went quite a bit different from what they expected. Fork is done, and we have to live with this now.

Changes are inevitable

It seems to me that we all will have to modify our habits quite a bit now, to remain maximum efective here, under new rules. And besides the old VP, we all got one more important metric to care about, and to use wiselly - the MANA (RC)

Do you understand your MANA dynamics ?

Possibly it is a bit early to make deep research yet, things may be still under heavy mutation in the next 5-7 days. But it is crucial to understand as good as possible, what influences your MANA (hence - your transaction effectiveness).
I have not found yet any detailed explanation, hows much MANA is changing from our every move on Steemit.
But everyone can monitor his own status, and his MANA/RC resources. There is at least three places where you can do this (if you know more - please share with us):
1- https://steemd.com
2- https://steemworld.org
3- SteemPlus browser extension

My small research

I have made 3 simple transactions (claimed my rewards, resteemed, upvoted and commented), while monitoring my status on steemd.com.
For easy of analysis, each time a move was made, I immediately have made a screenshot, so I could have all the figures for a later comparisons, calculations and considerations.
I thought maybe it can be useful (in some degree) even for others, what my results were. So I have put now all my screenshots on a single, albeit large drawing. Here it is:
mana_dynamics4.jpg

Sorry it came out in a bit weird fashion (not straight left-to-right). But I have put additional labels and comments, so hopefully you can understand where is what

  • State 0 - my initial state
  • State 1 - state after reward claim been done
  • State 2 - state after 1 full VP upvote been done
  • State 3 - state after 1 short text comment been done

It is quite clear that every move now cost us some MANA (I was going to say here "money", but this probably is missleading, and not a good idea) :)

While careful and responsible steemians can live with these new rules just fine, I have no doubt this will lead us to reduced amount of short, useless and meaningless comments (SPAM), as well as even abusive exploitation of countless bots and ingenious reward pool rapist's. Which all together, is good for the future of Steemit.

What do you think?
Are we on the way to bright future of STEEM?

All you comments will be so interesting to hear.

the mana in the bible is magic mushrooms, it used to grow every day when the Israelites moved their cattle into an area with adequate moisture. STEEM mana is a lot harder to come by, I had to wait all day to post this comment!

This is a very big change that will affect the way everyone Steemits. The limiting factor on the spam is excellent, all comments should at least be somewhat thoughtful and at the very least not automated.

EXACTLY ! You are so damn right !

Next week/s after we have crucial understaning on how resources are exactly spent, witnesses will start to tweak the parameters making sure that user experience will exceed their expectations. Not to mention that the next days most of the problems will disapear since mana related issues have already taken care of, it needs only a bit time for the blockchain to reach equilibrium as exactly was planned after all.

So Mana is just like the old Steem Power then??

Yes and NO
After HF20 there is now TWO different types of MANA. One is VOTING power Mana { (1) in my picture}, which determines how much worth is your ONE current upvote. The other (2) is RC = Resource Credit mana, which determines how many upvotes, comments, posts, and transfers of steem/sbd you can make with amount of RC mana you hold at this moment.

You can always see your own figures at www.steemd.com

Both regenerates slowly in time, like the old Voting Power

Very nice information. I am still confused about all this things but this article solved my some confusion.

Thanks

It is an important mechanism to better control the resources of the Steem blockchain. People will adapt and adjust their habits. ;)

MANA is not transferable and recharges every single moment. Imagine our account like a battery connected to solar panels (it depends from your SP how much the "capacity" of your battery is) that gets recharged for free from the steem-Sun :)
