Better - late - than - never?
Yesterday I finally got around to cooking my Christmas turkey!
"What's up with that, @onceuponatime?"
"Cooking your Christmas turkey on December 28th,"
"laziness?"
.
.
Although @twiceuponatime has long been out of my life, I sometimes still hear his nagging and mocking voice from somewhere deep in the recesses of the back of my mind.
insanity!
But hey, listen to my side of the story!
It's a lotta work!!!
And who knew that after I had already taken the turkey out of the freezer and put it into the refrigerator to thaw on December 23rd, my good friend @liondani was going to be so kind as to call me up and invite me to have Christmas dinner with his family? So there's an element of unintended/unavoidable disorganization in this story.
And who knew, after I asked @tikotiko for a turkey roasting recipe, that she was going to go above and beyond any normal kindness (even though she has never cooked a turkey herself) to search out a recipe for me that sounded so delicious! https://steemit.com/food/@tikotiko/turkey-recipe-by-cafe-boheme
.
I just had to try it!
.
But I was lacking a lot of the ingredients. And it was going to take me a while to recover from the feast at @liondani's house to be in any kind of a shopping mood!
OK, done with the excuses.
But it's a lot of work!
A heck of a lotta work!
And I never did find all of the ingredients
The "cranberry" sauce above, for instance, doesn't have any cranberries in it! :-)
But was it worth it, @onceuponatime?
Well, it was good, yes......
👍
@onceuponatime
(I'm in it for the long haul)
My first thought at seeing the photo was 'Yeah they rememberd to get chestnust for the stuffing!' I love chestnuts and we used to roast them in our open fireplace, making little x in them first.
I have not used fresh Ginger in cooking my turkey before, but I LOVE using fresh ginger in anything. I even boil it with just water and than sqeeze in fresh lemon for a great morning tea. So good.
Wow, an entire half of a squash that is impressive! Happy late Christmas dinner and Happy New Year.
The fresh ginger was for th "cranberry" sauce (that had no cranberries).
@onceuponatime,
I think most of ingredients are in my country (my village also) Anyway enjoy well and wish you a happy holidays + a new year!
Cheers~
Ah, you have turkeys in your village!
Where any animals hurt in the making of this post? 🤔
You from da guvmint?
I wish :(
Good job not letting it go to waste!

I'm eating it. Maybe we need a second opinion on whether that constitutes "going to waste" or not :-)
Since it was bumped by a good dinner with good friends, I believe it was totally justified to cook the Christmas turkey on the 28th.
I don't know if it was worth the trouble, but it did make a pretty plate of food.
"..., I believe it was totally justified to cook the Christmas turkey on the 28th."
I think you should look into being a lawyer :-)
.... I've been told that before. I know..... now I am totally NOT trustworthy.... right???......LOL !!
The stuffing looks very good and actually is the best part of turkey for me. Lol
Great! Next time someone tells me to "get stuffed" I will keep turkey dinners in mind :-)
Hahaha

Chef in the building ;) that's looks great
It certainly was not blazing fast to prepare :-)
The thing about cooking yourself is not the cooking.
I think the cooking part is the bit more self entertaining part but it's more of the before and after. More so of the after. Someone please clean up for me. haha.
Ssshhh! The children might hear you and stop believing in Santa.
I bet Santa does not need to cook.
Happy New Year.
Blessings to you and the holiday dinner. Because of work and family schedule my Christmas will be in January LOL
Yeah, I know what you mean. Maybe next year I will celebrate Christmas in May, when the weather is better!
From now i will call you..."Mr Chef"...!!! It looks delicious!!!
What's with the "Mr"? How about "Chief" Chef, or "General" Chef, or "Supreme Commander" Chef?
