The risk is intrinsic to investing; we cannot discuss returns or performance without at least mentioning risk. The hard part of trading is figuring out where the risk lies and what is its magnitude. Some simply wish to avoid all this and gravitate towards Low-risk investments. There are two types of Low-risk investments first is the No risk in which You’ll never lose your principal, and second is a reasonable risk of either breaking even or taking a small loss.

The issue with these types of investments is that they often require long periods of time and they have very low returns. This is a byproduct of them being of such low risk, which means that you will have to invest more if you’re looking for higher earnings. With that being said there are numerous types of low-risk investments one could invest in.

The lowest risk investment vehicle is a savings account such as a money market or certificate of deposit account. This is because these accounts give investors much higher returns than regular savings accounts and are very low risk. The downside with this is that the compounding interest is small if you don’t have a sizable sum of money in the accounts. You could also use a regular savings account because they too pay even more minuscule interest on the money you allow them to hold.

Another low-risk investment is the Us government Treasury bonds Which are practically guaranteed to be safe because US government has put its reputation on it. I put these second because they are not a versatile a high yield savings accounts. These bonds accrue interest as time passes and usually, in 10-15 years you are able to cash out for their interest added value. Later this week we will look deeper int how bonds and the bond market work as a low-risk investment.

Low-risk investments do exist and are helpful if you are a long-term investor with established funds, but for a newer trader adding a bit more risk to your portfolio will likely prove a more rewarding path.
