Albinism is a partial or complete loss of pigmentation(colouring) of the skin, eyes, and hair as a result of congenital disorder. This can be as a result of inheritance of recessive gene from parents either (father or mother).

There are two categories or class of albinos,which are :-

1 The oculocutaneous: affecting the eyes, skin, and hair of the individual

1. The ocular : affecting the eyes only

FOUNDER of The Albino Foundation, Jake Epelle, believes Nigerians with albinism are on the verge of overcoming age – long social stigma and inequality, following the advocacy efforts of his organisation. The Foundation began operations on May 5, 2006, when he felt a strong urge to embark on an advocacy campaign to address several years of discrimination and stigmatisation suffered by albinos. Sunday Vanguard met Epelle at the foundation laying ceremony of the Olivet Bible Church, Festac Town, Lagos, where he fielded questions on matters relating to albinism.

Once upon a time in the land of aiyekotokun. There lives the family of Mr and Mrs otito,who has been barren for about two decades (20)years. They have try different means to lift up this shameful embarrassment by visiting different hospital, church, mosque and even the local native doctors due to the humiliation from both young and old but to know avail,until one faithful day.

The story of Mr and Mrs otito change and was blessed with a son from God, who to everyone surprise was an albino. The arrival of this child never brought peace but more persecution that he must be killed,because he was seen as a cause or impending judgement to the villagers if not killed.

All thanks to the arrival of the Christian missionary who can and open the eyes of the villages and save the babe of Mr and Mrs otito family.
