ARMY - Should it be mandatory or not?
Compulsory military service YES or NO, that is one of the questions made by gavermant in my country Croatia.
Righ now is not obligatory .
"Everyone aged 16 to 45 should experience an army" That is the answer of 52% of people asked In a survey conducted on more than 680 respondents and the expanation was that it is excellent for gaining discipline and working habits.
Respondents point out that "many young people have no discipline, no respect for work habits, and that term is unknown to them."
What do you think about that?
My experience
I have double citizenship - Croatia and Israel
at the age 18 I lived in Israel and I served there, looking from now it was an interesting experience but not the one I recommend to everyone.
At that time Croatia was at war with many victims and in Israel is always intense.
My parents lived there so for me it was logical to stay in Israel.
Of course, there is big difference to be at army in wartime or in peace, question yes or no does not apply here if we talking about war.
Qustion of this post is should man or women be obliged to serve the army in pece or not
Beck to the sevey
Respondents say that 'men today are no longer males and can not even change bulbs by themselfs' and that 'they are not able to put a nail into the wall enymore.'
or
Beside gaining discipline, respondents consider that one of the benefits of serving military is that you learn about unity and fellowship and that one of the most important things to learn in the army is to take care of yourself. In the military, and especially after the service, the person begins to appreciate the things he did not even think were essential. That is why I think every healthy and capable person should serve a military without the possibility of civil service. "
Civil service
Respondents believe schools and hospitals are a great institution where young people can serve military. They also point out that a good option would be helping older and helpless people.
What is the situation in your country and what do you think about that ?
ARMY - Should be mandatory or not?

Mandatory! Starting yesterday. And Iphones etc. only allowed when not on duty.
This is a complex question and simple answer simply can't be given. Nor universal, since it depends on country, its geo-strategic position, demographics, economy or basic concepts of what would future conflicts look like.
Two years ago I wrote about this particular subject on my blog and expressed my view about reintroduction of conscription (not completely) being a bad idea.
For those who can't read/translate Croatian, this is a short version:
Thank you for great addition to my post :)
I think Croatia has bigger problems that defence. Money that would be spent on the maintenance should this idea pass into the law should go into education - way better way to get discipline and work habits.
I agree with you, army is expensive and without any purpose in today political situation.
Croatia is facing much bigger problems right now.
I would say yes! Because of the discipline. Many guys I know wait for their moms to clean their rooms. We have pretty wild population in early 30es, football hooligans are older than before. Military service is not just army. It's educational on many other aspects. People who served in ordinary military training are actually more clear with their goals and ambitions. It's not about handling the rifle or push-ups, it's about getting used to obligations and organization
This is kind of discussion I was hoping for to get from this post, glad to hear your opinion.
In some parts of your statement, I agree (discipline, educational aspects, obligations and organization)
But I think this kind of "education" is pretty expensive for country like ours.
You were quite lucky with having missed the Balkan War AND the plenty of Intifadas in Israel..
They abolished the service in Germany a few years back and now there are loads of whiny 18 year olds storming the university. So yes, let them learn it the hard way before they are allowed to live the sweet campus life;-)
Ironically, only men had to serve before which is even stated in the constitution that only men have this privilege. Usually, the feminists are going berserk when it's about "institutionalized discrimination" against women, but in this case, they managed to stay silent for 30 years. I wonder why..^^
Overall, I think all countries should do it like Switzerland and run a militia where every adult man has his rifle and uniform at home. I bet the world would be much more at peace.
Yes, my choice wasn't easy. Bout countries in difficult position and mandatory military service.
"feminists are going berserk when it's about "institutionalized discrimination"- this part deserves another post :)
I would like if women enter into our discussion, it is Symptomatic that only man replayed to this post.
I guess, this topic is about as far away as talking about pregnancies for men. Theoretically, it's also our business - theoretically;-)
good post my friend
Thank you for your reply.
